Landry Shamet | Early Life, Family & Education

Landry Shamet was born on March 13th, 1997, in Kansas City, Missouri, to his proud mother, Melanie Shamet.

Melanie attended Biose State University with a scholarship in volleyball. In 1989, Melanie was one of Missouri’s top volleyball athletes.

Her mother’s pregnancy with Landry was unplanned. However, she mentioned that his son saved him. Growing up, Landry was under serious ground rules made by his mother where honesty was non-negotiable, and they always had to stick together.

But even without a father, Landry and his mother were never alone. He had other elders he could look up to as well.

Moreover, Landry and his mother stayed with his grandparents, Dennis Shamet and Patti Shamet, until he was four years old.

They also lived with his aunt Janell and uncle Tyler for a short time when he was a little older.

Landry’s uncle Tyler became a very positive influence in his life. He was there for him, just like an older brother.

His grandfather, Dennis, taught Shamet how to keep his right elbow while making his jump shots.

After joining Wichita State University, Landry played only three games during his freshman season due to his foot injury.

Even though Shamet played for only three games, he became the nation’s best freshman point guard and soon paved his way toward becoming the Wichita State Shockers’ point guard for his sophomore year.

During his freshman year, he received honors like the MVC Freshman of the Year and First-team MVC All-Conference.

Shamet was one of two sophomores that made it to the 2018 Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list.

Philadelphia 76ers 

During the 2018 NBA draft, Laundry was taken by the Philadelphia 76ers as the 26th pick. He proved himself during the 2018 preseason with an 18-point score in a victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

His second performance that made an impression was when he scored 12 points in just 19 minutes during a win against Orlando.

Moreover, he scored a career-high of 29 points on January 8th, 2019, in a victory over the Washington Wizards, including a rookie record of 8 three-pointers.
