Louis “Lou” Bullock, Jr. was born on May 20, 1976, in Washington, D.C. Bullock was born to his father, Louis Bullock Sr. Sadly, his mother’s name is unknown.

Sweet Lou first started playing basketball when he was six years old. His father bought a basketball hoop in the backyard.

There, Bullock served as a point guard. Lou registered 25.7 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 8.4 APG, and 3.0 APG in his final high school season.

Bullock played all of his four years of college for Michigan. Over 11 games, he led the team in scoring. 

Lou started in all 35 games in his sophomore year and led the team scoring with 16.3 PPG, and 101-3 pointers were made. At the end of the season, Bullock became a member of the gold-winning USA team in the U-22 World Championship. 

Similarly, Lou then led the team in scoring for the second consecutive year. He averaged 17.1 points with a 44.9 3% percentage.

Bullock again led the team in his senior year at Michigan by scoring 20.7 PPG. He scored 75-3 pointers that season.

Louis Bullock | Professional Career

NBA Draft

In the 1999 NBA draft, Bullock was selected as the 42nd overall pick by Minnesota Timberwolves. Later, Bullock was traded by the Timberwolves to Orlando Magic for cash consideration.

But before the start of the season, he was waived by Magic. So, Bullock could not play even one game in NBA.

However, Louis Bullock spent all his professional career in various European leagues, and mostly six teams.

Professional Debut

Talking about his professional career, Lou signed his first professional contract with Italian club Muller Verona. He played for Verona in the 1999-00 season.

After that, Bullock made his professional debut against Virtus Roma in an 84-76 loss. Then, on 19th March 2000, Louis Bullock scored career-best 46 points against Milano.

Later on 20th February 2001, Bullock grabbed career-best nine rebounds in a 113-100 loss to Montecatini Terme.

In Euro League for Verona, Bullock averaged 22 points, shooting 41% from 3 points over 11 games. As a rookie in the Euro league, he was the fifth-best scorer. Later Bullock was named in 2001 All-Euro League’s first team. 

Later for the next two seasons in Italian League, Bullock played for Unicaja. Bullock was the Italian League-leading scorer in his first season with Milano, averaging 24.9 points over 29 games.

Road to Spain

Then in 2002, Bullock signed with Unicaja Malaga to play in Spanish ACB League. He signed with Malaga before the Spanish league playoff and contributed to the team reaching the finals.

Just in 10 games, Bullock averaged 15.0 points, shooting 51.5% from 3 points. Similarly, in the Euro league, he averaged 14.4 points for Malaga. 

Not to mention, Bullock was a fan favorite in Malaga, helping the team secure Euro League berths for two consecutive seasons. 

Outstanding years at Real Madrid

In 2004, Bullock agreed on the deal to join Real Madrid. In Real Madrid, not the football club, he became an instant impact helping teams to win multiple titles.

Although he was playing shooting guard before, Bullock was transformed into point guard after joining the Madrid side. Because of his ball-handling and vision, Bullock excelled at his new role.

On 19th December 2004, Bullock scored season-high 35 points with five assists in an 85-83 win over BAXI Manresa. On 12th March 2005, Bullock dished in career-best eight assists in a 77-83 victory over Lugo.

Later in the ACB league finals, Lou became MVP of the league’s final. Over five games, Bullock scored 86 points, including 11 points, in a must-win game five against TD Systems Baskonia on 27th June 2005.

The following season, in 2006-07, Bullock won the 2007 Euro Cup title and the Spanish league title.

Bullock scored 16 points in a 75-87 victory over Rytas Vilnius on 10th April 2007. Bullock averaged 13 points in the overall tournament, shooing 37.6% from beyond the arc.

Furthermore, he sustained an injury to his hand during the ACB League while playing against Estudiantes. However, he received medical assistance quickly after his injury. 

Besides that, the American player played the next three seasons for Real Madrid, leaving the club in the 2010 summer. However, he left Madrid with recognition from the club and its fans. He won over Madrid fans with his talent and charisma in the game.

Later, Bullock signed a one-year deal with another Spanish club CB Cajasol Sevilla for the 2010-11 season.

In one season with Sevilla, Bullock reached the final of the Euro Cup for the second time, but this time, he was on the losing side. Overall in 16 games, Bullock averaged 11.8 points.

Career End

In an interview in April 2012, Asefa Estudiantes revealed that they signed Bullock. However, he just played three games averaging 1.7 points. Estudiantes is the last club of Bullock’s professional career.
