Luguentz Dort’s parents were Haitians. They moved to Canada from Saint-Marc commune, Haiti when they were 21. Lu was a very athletic child. He played soccer and basketball and managed to be equally good at both.

His hometown, Montreal North, didn’t have much soccer hype. However, he started playing soccer as a goalkeeper at the early age of four.

Being the tallest one in the group, Dort showed his challenging skills between the ports. He split his time between two of his most favorite sports.

His mother asked him to choose the one that would make him the happiest. The decision was necessary so that he could put his entire focus on one thing. The bigger the focus, the greater the achievement, as rightly said.

Dort picked basketball over soccer. He has been happily indulged in it since then.

Dort grew up playing street basketball with his brothers at Saint Laurent Park near his home in Montreal.

His playing schedule never let him have the opportunity to join street gangs like some of his friends did. He played organized basketball in Park Extension Knights at age 12. It is a local youth basketball club in Montreal with Nelson Ossé as the coach and mentor.

Dort got into weight training at age 15. He stood at 5 feet and 11 inches (180 cm) back then.

Luguentz Dort – High School Career

Dort went to a high school in Quebec all his freshman year. He competed for Brookwood Elite on the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) circuit while in high school.

He also represented Canada at the Adidas Nations tournament in July 2015. Dort recorded 9.2 points and four rebounds on average through 4 games.

He then transferred to Arlington Country Day School in Jacksonville, Florida, for his sophomore year. The step was initiated, overseeing the opportunities to face better competition and learn English.

Nelson Ossé, his coach, urged him to consider improving his poor academic performance before moving out.

Dort recorded 11.3 points on average through 6 games in August 2016. He contributed to leading Canada to second place at Adidas Nations.

The Nike Americas Team Camp invited him later in the month. They named him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the All-Star game.

He then moved to Conrad Academy in Orlando, Florida, for his junior year. He followed his former Arlington Country Day coach Shaun Wiseman to the new place.

Dort played his debut game for Arizona State University on November 6, 2018.

He compiled 28 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. It was a 102–94 victory over Cal State Fullerton in double-overtime.

Dort also succeeded in breaking the school record for freshman debut points.

He grabbed his first double-double on November 12, 2018. It was after he scored 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 90–58 victory over Long Beach State.

Similarly, he recorded 33 points, seven rebounds, and four assists on November 21. It was against Utah State in the heavyweight bracket of the MGM Resorts Main Event.

Moreover, he scored the third-most points that have ever been recorded by a freshman in Arizona State history.

Luguentz Dort – Professional Career

Dort remained undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft. He then signed a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunders of the NBA.

Lu played his debut game in NBA on December 6, 2019. He played for a total time of seven minutes.

Dort succeeded in grabbing a rebound in an overtime victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He was then scheduled to play his next game against the Portland Trailblazers on December 8, 2019. He played for a total time of 20 minutes, grabbing three rebounds and 2 points

Dort then recorded a career-high 23 points with two rebounds, a steal, and a block on January 29, 2020. It was a 120–100 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
