Matthew Slater was born in Long Beach, California, United States, on September 9, 1985, to his father, Jackie Slater, and his mother, Annie Slater.
He grew up with his only sibling brother David Slater.
Seeing his father play football in the big stadiums, Matthew always aspired to play at the professional level.
However, Jackie and Annie tried to steer their children away from football as much as they could. Jackie even coached Matthew baseball with the hope that he would choose an entirely different sport.
