Mia Hamm’s husband, Nomar Garciaparra, is the legendary shortstop player of the Boston Red Sox. The athletic couple tied the knot in 2003 and has parented three kids.
The most recognizable faces of women’s soccer and one of the most successful athletes of her time, Mia Hamm, fell for Nomar Garciaparra because of his hair.
But she has said that beyond the great hair and good looks, Nomar had always been a family-oriented man.
When we hear about successful couple dynamics, it often involves sacrifice by one of them. But that wasn’t the case between Mia and Nomar.
They have played an equal role in raising their kids and also have successful careers. But the two have decided to keep their family life away from the spotlight with limited usage of social media.

Born in Whittier, California, Garciaparra was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1994. The young player had already shown he was made for the big league since day one.
In his first season as a professional baseball player, Roman played for the Class A team Sarasota Red Sox and joined the Double-A Team Trenton Thunder in 1995.
For the 1996 season, Roman was pushed to Triple-A Team Pawtucket Red Sox and after a series of stunning performances, was called up for his MLB debut.
He debuted against Oakland Athletics and in his rookie season in 1997, set the league on fire. He was unanimously voted for the Rookie Of The Year and won multiple accolades.
From 1997-2000, Garciaparra was unplayable, but many believed the wrist injury in 2001 altered his career forever.
Before the wrist injury, many believed Nomar could’ve gone down as the greatest shortstop of all time, but fate has something else waiting for him.
The season he left the Red Sox was the season, they went on to win the World Series Title. But his teammates noting his contribution decided Normar should also receive the World Series Ring.
Garciaparra went on to play for Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Oakland Athletics.
In 2010, Garciaparra signed a one-day contract to end his career with Boston Red Sox and was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2014.
Mia Hamm And Nomar Garciaparra Married Life
Mia Hamm first met her future husband in 1998 at Harvard’s soccer pitch. The two had a shootout, five kicks each, and it was Hamm who took the win that day.
Since then, a strong friendship was formed between the star athletes. In 1999, when Hamm went through a tough phase in her career, one of the first people she turned to was Nomar.
The shortstop’s advice worked for her, and after a few games, she returned to her best. The two’s shared love for fitness helped them spend more time together, and soon the baseballer went down on one knee during their trip to the Caribbean.
The couple tied the knot on November 22, 2003, in the coastal California community of Santa Barbara with a few hundred guests in attendance.
After their marriage, the couple experienced parenthood twice. The first time was with twin daughters, Grace and Ava. The second time around, Mia gave birth to a baby boy, Garrett Anthony.
The couple hasn’t shown their kids on social media handles and is selective when it comes to doing interviews.
In 2018, in the PCA-Los Angeles’ Positive Sports Parent Series, the couple talked about their kids, with Nomar emphasizing letting kids play multiple sports.
They also had previously talked about their parenting skills in an interview with Inspirato. The two stated they want their kids to be active and healthy more than anything else.
