Nadia Kassem: Early life and family

Nadia Kassem was born on November 15, 1995, in Wentworthville, Australia. However, the information regarding her parents is not available.

Nadia’s family is originally from Lebanon. Her grandparents emigrated from Lebanon to Australia in the 1970s. Hence, Nadia Kassem is a 3rd generation Australian from her family.

Nadia’s Lebanese Muslim grandparents raised her. Her grandfather, Rafic Ibrahim, died in July 2020 at the age of 29. He was the father figure in Nadia Kassem’s life.

Nadia Kassem – Mixed Martial Arts Career

Background

Nadia Kassem first developed an interest in MMA by watching The Ultimate Fighter 18, The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate.

It is an American reality television series and MMA competition produced by FOX Sports.

Further, her brother’s indulgence in MMA tournaments enabled her to consider a career in MMA. She then joined MMA training.  

Nadia began her career in amateur MMA. Later, she scored 4-0 in an MMA fight. Thereupon, Nadia Kassem got signed by UFC.

The Australia-born MMA fighter started her MMA career in her home country. She first fought in the Australian circuit under Urban Fight Night (UFN). UFN is an MMA promotion company based in Sydney.

Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC)

She received her first colossal opportunity to compete within UFC on June 11, 2017, at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Hunt in Auckland, New Zealand. She had to fight against JJ Aldrich.

However, Nadia could not make it to the tournament because of an injury. She got removed from the card. The South Korean MMA fighter Chan-Mi Jeon replaced Nadia Kassem in that tournament.

Kassem’s South Korean opponent Ji Yeon Kim was charged with a 30% fine of her personal money for being overweight.

Kassem received the set amount. Ji Yeon Kin weighed 128 lb., 2 additional lbs. than the requirement for flyweight division.

Moreover, Nadia Kassem tried to take a cheap shot by faking a glove touch at the beginning of the feud with Ji Yeon Kim.

She was heavily criticized for the move. Regardless, Nadia lost the competition.
