Nico Harrison, the current president of basketball operations and the Dallas Mavericks general manager, is in the spotlight for his firing news.
He met with ferocious criticism from enraged fans related to the Luka Doncic transfer scandal, creating an unparalleled situation in Dallas.
On June 28, 2021, Nico succeeded Donnie Nelson and was appointed as the general manager and president of basketball operations for the Dallas Mavericks.
On the same day, the Mavericks began a new era of leadership and appointed Jason Kidd as their new head coach, signaling a fresh strategic direction for the franchise.
During Nico’s first three seasons as General Manager, the Mavericks emerged as a powerhouse in the Western Conference, making back-to-back Conference Finals appearances and NBA Finals in 2024.
Recognizing his transformative leadership, the Mavericks rewarded him with a multi-year contract extension in June 2024, securing his vision for the franchise’s future.
However, he faced a fiery backlash from furious fans when he traded Mavericks superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. It was considered the worst trade in the NBA’s history.

Nico Harrison Isn’t Fired But Became A Divisive Person
Since the Trade, Nico Harrison has become the most inharmonious figure in Dallas.
Mavericks fans have relentlessly criticized him, and he hasn’t shied away from the tension, even having protesting fans ejected during games.
The relationship remains frosty, with neither side backing down.
In a move that sent shockwaves through the NBA, Nico Harrison, alongside longtime friend and Lakers GM Rob Pelinka, orchestrated the shocking February 2025 trade of Mavericks icon Luka Dončić to Los Angeles.
The trade sparked immediate fury among Dallas fans and media, particularly after the franchise reached the 2024 NBA Finals with Luka as its cornerstone.
As we turn the page, I think it’s important to know that [Mavs coach Jason Kidd] and I, we’ve had a vision and the culture that we want to create since we’ve been here.
Nico Harrison
The players that we’re bringing in, we believe, exemplify that. We think defense wins championships, and we’re bringing in one of the best two-way players in the league.
Nico justified the move, declaring, “Defense wins championships,” and praising Anthony Davis as the embodiment of the Mavericks’ new cultural vision.
Unfortunately, his plan backfired almost instantly. Anthony reaggravated an abdominal injury in his Dallas debut, sidelining him indefinitely, an ominous twist that deepened the franchise’s turmoil.
Well, let’s be clear: I’m the one making the decision and [Kidd]’s supportive of it, so it’s me. I don’t do anything that’s scary. I think everything that we do, we put a lot of work into it, we study it and we re-study it and we go back. I understand the magnitude of it.
Nico Harrison
So the easiest thing for me to do is do nothing, and everyone would praise me for doing nothing. But we really believe in it — and time will tell if I’m right.
Dallas Mavericks Fan Chris Taylor Plans To File Police Report
On Monday night, a Dallas Mavericks fan, Chris Taylor, screamed, “Fire Nico!” in Nico Harrison’s face. Shortly after the incident, his phone was taken away and thrown to the ground.
He plans to file a police report regarding the wrongdoing he encountered at the American Airlines Center during the Mavericks’ game against the Brooklyn Nets.

Chris expressed that the team and arena officials were furious with him because of his interaction with Nico.
Later, a man sat behind him and became physically confrontational when he tried to record the scene on his phone.
That man grabbed him, took his phone and threw it to the ground. Luckily, a new cover prevented the phone from being destroyed.
Chris claimed no action was taken despite immediately reporting the incident to the Maverick’s staff and arena security.
He believes they deliberately ignored his complaint because they protected each other, especially after his earlier confrontation with Nico Harrison.
I feel like a crime was committed and I feel like [the Mavericks] not doing anything is part of it. I feel like it was a setup, to a certain extent.
Chris Taylor
I feel like I’d be an idiot to not file a police report after what happened to me last night.
