Nigerian-American athlete Mary Adah Akor Beasley now seems to live a life out of the media spotlight, participating in small marathon events.
Mary Akor’s doping case began in December 2012, when she tested positive for clenbuterol after winning the Gobernador Marathon in Mexicali, Mexico.
Later, she accepted a two-year ban issued by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in 2013.
At the time, the case received limited media attention, and she quietly stepped away from competition.
After serving her suspension, Akor returned to racing in 2015.
She began entering marathons and road races across the United States, Mexico, and Africa, often choosing events that did not conduct drug testing.
In 2022, Akor once again came to the spotlight after winning the Detroit Free Press Marathon under the name Mary Beasley, earning $6,000 in prize money.
Her victory drew media attention, which brought up her past doping case, prompting race officials to announce plans for stricter anti-doping policies.
That same year, she won the Santiago de America Monumental Marathon in the Dominican Republic, again under a pseudonym, and earned $8,000.

With reduced media attention and coverage, Mary now appears to be continuing her athletic career out of the public eye.
While not confirmed, she was reportedly seen in April 2025 at the Maraton De La Atenas Veracruzana 2025.
