Pittsburgh, PA, Mom Outraged After Adult Coaches Fight Between Two Young Girls at Homewood Youth Center

A Pittsburgh mother is speaking out after she says a violent fight broke out between two young girls outside The Promise Center of Homewood, and what made it worse was that an adult was standing right there, not to stop it, but to coach the girls through it.

The incident, first reported by WPXI-TV Pittsburgh, has sparked outrage among parents and community members who are questioning how something like this could happen outside a youth center, a place that is supposed to be a safe space for children.

According to the mother, the fight did not just happen on its own. She claims an adult was present during the altercation and was actively encouraging the girls rather than stepping in to break it up.

The Promise Center of Homewood is meant to serve the local community and its young people, making the alleged behavior of that adult even more disturbing to those who heard about it.

The mother says she wants accountability and is demanding answers about who was present that day and why no one intervened to protect the children involved.

The story quickly spread on social media after WPXI shared it on Facebook, drawing a wide range of reactions from the public.

Allen Campbell wrote,

“I gotta say, this is how most of us grew up. A dad, uncle, whatever, would supervise and let the kids duke it out. However, when it was done, we shook hands and sometimes became friends. I don’t see how this is newsworthy.”

Not everyone agreed with that perspective. Michelle Kaczynski commented, “If the kids inside are still a problem, then maybe the center needs evaluation for proper care. Sorry but sick of these people allowing bullying and harassment.”

Charles Stone kept it short with, “Slow news day,” while Brian Pierrard simply wrote, “No memorials,” suggesting a darker possible outcome was avoided.

Jeff Miller added a sarcastic take, writing, “Welcome to New Baltimore, PA,” referencing the broader culture of looking the other way when kids fight.

One comment that stood out for the wrong reasons came from David Adams, who wrote, “It’s in their genes,” a remark that many would find deeply offensive and rooted in racial bias, particularly given that the incident took place in the Homewood neighborhood, which is a predominantly Black community in Pittsburgh.

The divide in the comments reflects a broader national conversation about how adults should handle conflict between children, where the line is between letting kids work things out and allowing genuine harm to occur, and what responsibility community organizations have in keeping young people safe.

Child welfare advocates have long warned that adults who encourage or supervise fights between minors can cause lasting physical and emotional harm, and in some cases, such behavior can result in criminal charges depending on the circumstances and the ages of the children involved.

The Promise Center of Homewood has not yet made a public statement regarding the incident.

The mother involved is urging anyone with information or video of the fight to come forward. She wants to make sure this does not happen to another child in the community.
