Reed Sheppard, an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets, credits his athletic success to his parents, Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, who played college basketball at Kentucky.

His elder sister, Madison, played college basketball at Campbellsville University.

Isaiah Reed Sheppard played basketball at North Laurel High School, where he was named the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year.

During his senior year, he was selected to play in the 2023 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game and was named Mr. Kentucky Mr. Basketball.

Despite offers from Louisville and Virginia, he committed to play college basketball for Kentucky and enrolled at the University in June 2023.

He averaged 8.5 points, 5.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game and won the GLOBL JAM tournament in Canada. Later, the conference coaches named him SEC Freshman of the Year.

On April 18, 2024, Reed declared for the 2024 NBA draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility, and the Houston Rockets drafted him with the third overall pick.

He made his NBA debut against the Charlotte Hornets on October 23, 2024, and was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on January 6, 2025.

However, with his increased role in the G League, the Rockets recalled him.

Reed Sheppard Attributes His Success And Discipline To His Family Values

Isaiah Reed Sheppard, the son of Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, was born on June 24, 2004, in London, Kentucky. His parents raised her alongside his sister, Madison.

He continued his parents’ legacy, joining the University of Kentucky, where he wore his father’s jersey number 15.

Basketball runs deep in the Sheppard family, and Jeff and Stay have passed on their love for the game to their son, who plays for the Houston Rockets.

Jeffrey Kyle Sheppard was a highly praised recruit from McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, Georgia, where he was named the state’s Player of the Year in 1993.

His talent earned him a scholarship to the University of Kentucky, where he became a key player under two legendary coaches, Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith.

Jeff was part of two national championship teams: the 1996 squad under Pitino and the 1998 team under Smith. After leading the Wildcats to the 1998 title, he was named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

Despite his college success, Jeff’s professional career was short-lived. The Atlanta Hawks signed him in the 1998-99 season, but he had limited playing time. He retired from basketball after a brief preseason stint with the Toronto Raptors.

Afterward, he started his apparel company, 15 Inc., which specializes in the brand of golf shirts, T-shirts, caps, and other items.

It’s just now we’re putting our drive into our family, our business, our careers, our community, our church. We want to win, meaning succeed and be good people, in all those things.

Meanwhile, Stacey Reed stood out for the Kentucky women’s basketball team in the early 1990s. She remains one of the program’s all-time greats, ranking seventh in career scoring with over 1,400 points.

She helped elevate Kentucky’s women’s basketball program with her scoring ability and leadership during her tenure.

After her playing career, she worked for a healthcare company. She is also involved in a non-profit group called The Backpack Club, which raises money to provide for children from poor backgrounds.

Reed Sheppard’s Parents Were College Lovers

Basketball brought Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed together, but love united them. They found more than just success on the court.

Their romance blossomed at the University, and they passed on their basketball legacy to their son, Reed Sheppard.

Jeff was a highly praised recruit when he arrived at the University of Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Stacey Reed was already a standout on the Kentucky women’s basketball team, entering her junior year as one of the program’s leading scorers.

Wellllll, we met at UK through study hall and in the training room and through pickup ball games. Because we were both so studious, we spent a lot of time in study hall. Stacey was just a real good friend, wanted to be there for me as a friend. She asked me if I ever needed anything, we could go fishing together or hang out together. But I wouldn’t have anything to do with her.

The first time Stacey saw Jeff, she boldly declared to her teammates: I’m going to marry that boy one day.

Years later, she laughed,

“I did say that. I don’t know if I believed it, but I said it.”

From the start, Stacey treated Jeff differently from anyone else. While he quickly became a fan favorite, she wasn’t starstruck by his rising fame, as she had already lived the life of a Kentucky basketball star.

Despite their successes, their most significant victory was building a life together after basketball. Her honesty and grounded nature drew him in, and soon, their connection grew beyond the court.

After marrying, Jeff and Stacey settled in London, Kentucky, where they raised their children, Reed and Madison.

Both parents stayed involved in basketball, Jeff through coaching and business ventures, and Stacey through mentoring young athletes.
