Later, in 1971, he formally entered the Sabres organization on radio and later moved to television in 1995.

His career lasted over 50 years, the longest tenure ever for an NHL announcer. Throughout his professional career, he primarily worked with the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL.

With throat cancer and a pacemaker installed in his heart, Rick struggled with health complications for a long time. 

However, none of that stopped his passion and continued till 2022. His relentless effort and determination toward the game won him several honors, including several Hall of Fame induction.
