Early Life, Family & Education
Starting with basics, Rodney Hood was born Rodney Michael Hood to his parents, Ricky and Vicky Hood, in Meridian, Mississippi, on October 20, 1992.
Rodney grew up with a brother and a sister, with whom he shares a strong bond.
Hood has always been a basketball fan, and why not? His whole family was into it, including his brother, sister, and father. He has always trained himself to be brave and never give up.

High School Career
The professional basketball player enrolled at Meridian High School in Meridian, Mississippi, and played for the high school team.
In the 2009-10 season, he led the Wildcats to the Class 6A finals, averaging 22.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.
As a senior, Hood led his team to win the Class 6A championship, averaging 24.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 3.1 steals, and two blocks per game.

The same season, Hood scored 24 points against Vicksburg, leading Meridian to a 62-47 victory.

College Career
After high school, Rodney committed to Mississippi State University. In 2011-12, as a freshman, he started in 29 of the Bulldogs’ 32 games.
For his impressive freshman season, averaging 10.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2 assists per game while maintaining a 44.3 field goal percentage, Hood was named to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman Team.
In July 2012, he switched to Duke University to finish his remaining college eligibility.
Per NCAA transfer rule, he had to stay out of the 2012-13 Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team. However, he helped his team to improve in practice and was regarded as one of the top players on the team.
In his second year at Duke, he got selected as a captain for the Blue Devil and played in 35 games, starting in 33 of them.
Leading the team as a captain, Hood notched 16.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 32.9 minutes per game. In addition, he managed to average 46.4% field goal and 42% three-pointers.
He was honored as the second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference because of his fantastic performance throughout the 2013-14 season.
Following his improvement in the college campaigns, he declared for the NBA draft giving up on his two years of college eligibility in April 2014.

Utah Jazz Highlights
The Utah Jazz selected Rodney with the 23rd pick on June 26, 2014, and he later signed his rookie–scale contract with the team on July 11.
He scored his season-best 24 points after converting 9 of 11 shots from the field and 5 of 5 behind the arc.
Similarly, he started 79 games in the 2015-16 season, establishing himself as a go-to offensive option and a reliable asset all around. In these 79 games, he logged double digits in 61 games and 15 games with 20+ points.
During his game against the Memphis Grizzlies, he scored his career-high 32 points in a 92-87 overtime win on January 2, 2016.
Hood started his 2016-17 season by scoring 26 points in a 113-104 loss against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Rodney notched 27 points in a 110-77 win against Detroit Pistons. Furthermore, two months later, against Sacramento Kings, he recorded a season-best 28 points in 110-109.
In the 2017-18 season, he helped his team book yet another win against the Mavericks on October 30, 2017, where he scored 25 points.
The small forward scored a season-high 31 points coming off the bench in a 125-85 victory over the Orlando Magic.
Despite performing brilliantly with the team, he was traded before the end of the season.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Utah Jazz traded Rodney to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team trade, including the Sacramento Kings, on February 8, 2018.
His debut for the Cavaliers came in a 121-99 win against the Boston Celtics, where he scored 15 points.
Rodney refused to play against the Toronto Raptors in Game 4 because of a lack of playing time and apologized to the team afterward.
Although the team made it to the 2018 NBA Finals, they lost to Golden State Warriors in 4-0.
After signing a contract extension with the Cavaliers, Hood scored a season-high 26 points to end their six-game losing streak in a 136-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks on October 30, 2018.
Portland Trail Blazers
Hood was traded to Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV, and two future second-round picks on February 4, 2019.
He scored his season-high 27 points in a 118-108 win over the Charlotte Hornets. His playoff career-high 25 points came in a 119-108 win over the Denver Nuggets in Game 6 6 of the Trail Blazers’ second-round playoff series.

Later, Hood was waived by the Raptors on August 3.
Milwaukee Bucks
