Ronda Rousey | Early Life

Born in Riverside, California, on February 1, 1987, Ronda Jean Rousey is the youngest of Ann Maria de Mars (Nee Wadel) and Ron Rousie’s three daughters, after whom she was named.

Rousey nearly passed from a lack of oxygen when she was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, and she suffered minor brain damage that hampered her ability to speak an intelligible word until she was six.

During those crucial days of Rousey’s, her father took good care of her, motivated her to stand up to challenges, and never falter. Ronda shared an intimate bond with her father, him helping her shape up her self-esteem and help her talk fluently. 

Her mother was the first American to win the World Judo Championships (1984), making her the most decorated judoka in Judo. 

Ann Maria received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Riverside, while her daughters were growing up.

Her father committed suicide in 1995; Rousey was eight back then, after learning he would have paraplegia upon breaking his back sledding with his daughters.

Rousey had her training in Judo from her early days, under the tutelage of her mother. She was 11 years old when she took a keen interest in Judo and rehearsed daily, with her mother supporting her throughout her early days. 

Ronda Rousey qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games at the age of 17, making her the youngest judoka to compete.

She won a gold medal in the World Junior Judo Championships the same year. Rousey went on to win numerous more medals in the discipline of judo before retiring from the sport at  21 to pursue MMA as a new profession.

She worked numerous jobs, such as waitressing, bartending, and so on, while she was solely focused on mixed martial arts training.

In 2011, she made her MMA debut, and she quickly rose through the ranks of the UFC. The fame came from winning 12 fights in a row and rising to the top of the boxing world.

With her debut in WWE on 8th April 2018, she had mainstreamed multiple main events in the WWE, with multiple records under her belt. 

In January 2018, she surprised everyone at the Royal Rumble. In March 2018, she joined the RAW brand of WWE.

On August 19, 2018, she defeated Alexa Bliss to win her first Raw Championship, then a month later, on September 16, she retained her title, defeating Bliss once more in a WWE Hell in a Cell pay-per-view event.

Rousey lost her first WWE match to Lynch in March 2019, ending her 231-day reign as WWE Women’s Champion, a record in itself in the WWE Women’s Division to hold a title for such a period.

Ronda Rousey is a professional boxer who presently resides in Venice, California. Rousey turned vegan after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but in 2012 she defined her diet as “sort of a blend between a Paleo and a Warrior diet,” in which she tried to eat everything.

She has previously spoken about her body image issues. “Martial arts made you a geek in school,” she explained, “and I became self-conscious about being too manly.”

I got ringworm and cauliflower ears when I was 16 years old. My arms were mocked, and I was dubbed ‘Miss Man.’ I didn’t realize how foolish these people were till I was older. “I’m incredible.”

She auctioned off signature T-shirts in 2015 to raise money for the Black Jaguar-White Tiger Foundation.

Rousey dated Brendan Schaub, a fellow UFC fighter, at one point. Rousey was rumored to be seeing UFC fighter Travis Browne when a picture of the two together surfaced on Twitter in August 2015.

After a few years of dating, netizens expected their engagement was on the cards. That was confirmed when on April 20, 2017, Ronda Rousey and Browne got engaged in New Zealand.
