Born in Riverside, California, on February 1, 1987, Ronda Jean Rousey is the youngest of Ann Maria de Mars (Nee Wadel) and Ron Rousie’s three daughters, after whom she was named.
Rousey nearly passed from a lack of oxygen when she was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, and she suffered minor brain damage that hampered her ability to speak an intelligible word until she was six.
During those crucial days of Rousey’s, her father took good care of her, motivated her to stand up to challenges, and never falter. Ronda shared an intimate bond with her father, him helping her shape up her self-esteem and help her talk fluently.
Her mother was the first American to win the World Judo Championships (1984), making her the most decorated judoka in Judo.
