Ryan Fitzpatrick Agreed to Sign $10 Million Contract with the Washington

Veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick after Miami Dolphins is all set to play his 17th NFL season for the Washington Football Team.

According to sources, Ryan Fitzpatrick has agreed to sign a one-year contract worth $10 million with the Washington Football Team, previously known as the Washington Redskin. The contract amount is likely to increase up to $12 million with the incentives.

Ryan will soon join two quarterbacks, Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke. All three of them will be under the watch of head coach Ron Rivera.

Adding one more quarterback may not have been in Washington’s plan for a longer-term, but Fitzpatrick can play a significant role at this moment.

Last season, Washington had three quarterbacks, Dwayne Haskins, Allen, and Alex Smith. Washinton released Haskins and Smith.

The 38-year old Ryan has already played as a quarterback for eight NFL teams; with Washington, it will be the ninth time.

What role did Ryan play for the Miami Dolphins?

In the last two seasons, Fitzpatrick helped rebuild the team as a bridge starter. In 2019, he defeated Josh Rosen in an open competition and became the Dolphin’s starter. Again in 2020, Fitzpatrick became the starter beating out rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

One of Ryan’s winning moments for the Dolphins was against the Las Vegas Raiders when Fitzpatrick came off the bench and led the team to victory. But due to COVID-19, Ryan could not play against the Buffalo Bills, which led to a loss for the team.

In 2020, Ryan started seven games out of nine. He scored 2,091 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

All in all, Fitzpatrick is the 10th best active quarterback with 34,977 passing yards with 223 touchdowns and 169 interceptions.

For which NFL teams did Ryan play before the Washington Football Team?

After playing college football at Harvard, Fitzpatrick started his NFL career with the St. Louis Rams. The Rams chose Ryan in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

He signed a three-year contract worth $953,000 with the Rams.

The Rams traded Ryan in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals picked Fitzpatrick in the seventh round.

After two seasons with the Cincinnati, on February 27, 2009, Ryan signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills.

Following the Bengals, Ryan went to join the Tennessee Titans in March 2013. Soon the Titans replaced Fitzpatrick with Charlie Whitehurst on March 14, 2014.

Then Fitzpatrick played for the Houston Texans for a year. Next year on March 11, the New York Jets picked him to join his former head coach, Chan Gailey.

After completing the 2015 season, Fitzpatrick signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Jets but a free agent.

Before joining the Dolphins in 2019, Ryan spent a year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signing a one-year contract.

Finally, on March 18, 2019, the Miami Dolphins picked Fitzpatrick offering a two-year contract worth $11 million.
