Steve McMichael, also known as “Mongo,” is a former football player with an impressive career in both football and wrestling.

He played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for 15 seasons, especially with the Chicago Bears after starting his football career at Texas and being picked by the New England Patriots in the 1980 NFL Draft.

The 6 feet 2 inches tall Mongo got recognition as a Pro Bowler and All-Pro multiple times, helping the Bears win Super Bowl XX.

After retiring from the NFL, he joined the Green Bay Packers and later became a wrestler, notably with the World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he was part of the Four Horsemen and won the WCW United States Championship.

Not just that, Steve remained popular in Chicago, even having a restaurant named after him, and he also coached the Chicago Slaughter and ran for mayor of Romeoville, Illinois.

Steve McMichael now lives a low-key profile life after diagnosing ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). He announced that he would be battling this neuron disease back in 2021.

ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a rare, fatal neurodegenerative disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness and loss of motor control, ultimately affecting the speech, swallowing, and breathing of the patient.

On September 18, 2021, the football legend McMichael revisited Soldier Field to receive the ALS Courage Award from the Les Turner ALS Foundation. Reportedly, the foundation has been providing support to Mongo and his family since his ALS diagnosis.

Just after his announcement, the sportsperson took a leave from media life. He vanished from both media platforms as well as from social media, which ultimately created his death hoax.

Despite battling this fatal health issue, Mongo is not dead. He is still alive and giving his best for the fastest recovery.

The football player cum wrestler decided not be have public appearances, and even his family opted for a private life for some years after the ALS announcement.
