According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Mina Sabet was involved in a tragic car accident that occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the Winchester Road exit on Interstate 15.
Officials reported that a BMW M4 was traveling northbound at high speed when it crossed over the median and collided with a white Nissan Sentra on the southbound side.
The BMW was filled with four individuals: a 25-year-old man from Moreno Valley who was driving, a 23-year-old woman in the passenger seat, and two teenagers, Mina Sabet and Jacob Labib, seated in the back. Both Mina and Jacob tragically lost their lives in the crash.
Individuals at the scene were able to pull the driver from the burning BMW. He sustained major injuries and remains under medical observation.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, a 35-year-old man from Wildomar, was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital. A 22-year-old passenger in the Sentra survived but is hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities confirmed that the accident claimed the lives of four individuals, including the two teenagers, i.e., Mina and Jacob.
Mina and Jacob were returning from a tournament when the accident took place. Not only the Temecula community but also many neighboring areas have expressed their grief over this tragic incident.
Many have shared their sorrow with the families of both teens, offering support through social media. One message read:
Our Coptic Orthodox community mourns the tragic loss of Mina Sabet and Jacob Labib, who passed away returning from their tournament. We ask the Lord to grant them rest in the Paradise of Joy and to comfort Fr. Jonah Labib and family, and the Sabet family, with His peace. May their memory be eternal, and may the Lord strengthen all who grieve.
Both Mina Sabet and Jacob Labib were rising talents with SoCal Reds FC. They are being remembered for their passion, skill, and bright futures that were tragically cut short.
Furthermore, the reports suggest that the reckless, high-speed driving of the BMW driver was the primary cause of the accident, though the investigation is ongoing.
Rest in Peace, bright young talents of Temecula!
