Lonnie Jr. stepped up after their parents separated.

Lonnie Jr. became Kyle’s primary source of support, guidance, and protection.

He ensured that his brother didn’t follow in the same path as his childhood friends, who are no longer alive. He didn’t allow him to get any tattoos or piercings.

The Point guard has often said he owes his survival to his brother, who kept him from following the dangerous paths of some childhood friends.

Their sibling bond was built on basketball.

Lonnie Jr. taught Kyle how to play, pushing him in pickup games against older boys. He searched newspaper ads for AAU basketball tryouts and ensured that Kyle got there and made the team.

Beyond basketball, Lonnie Jr. gave him crucial emotional advice, teaching him not to dwell on their estranged father. His strict mentorship helped Kyle’s toughness and success.
