Travis’s Faith In Christianity & Family Support Changed His Life

Travis Ishikawa, a first baseman for the Connecticut Defenders, faced challenges in his playing seasons due to injuries and inconsistent performance.

Despite being a 21st-round MLB Draft choice of the San Francisco Giants in 2002, Ishikawa’s journey to the major leagues was not as smooth as anticipated.

However, a shift in perspective occurred when he started taking his faith in Christianity.

This newfound faith provided Ishikawa with patience, strength, and the ability to overcome setbacks without allowing them to define him.

In his third season with the Connecticut Defenders, Ishikawa’s performance improved, and he achieved a career-best .292 batting average, coupled with eight home runs and 45 RBI.

Inspired by his Christian beliefs, he reads the Bible to find scriptures that help him manage his emotions.

A symbolic gesture involves making a cross before stepping into the batter’s box, a practice he learned from a WNBA player.

This ritual serves as a reminder of his faith and helps him stay focused on what truly matters.

Moreover, family support, particularly that of his wife Rochelle, has played an integral role in Ishikawa’s journey.

During a challenging time when he was demoted to San Jose due to a wrist injury, Ishikawa found strength in spending time with Rachelle’s family.

Her uncle, whom Ishikawa calls “a man of God,” provided fellowship and encouragement. This support network fueled Ishikawa’s resolve.
