Tyrell possessed exceptional ball-handling skills from an early age. Larry taught him everything he needed to know to play basketball. Soon, basketball became an integral part of his life.

As a result, Tyrell dreamt of becoming an NBA player, but he thought the dream was unachievable because of his skepticism.

Tyrell Terry was a member of the DeLaSalle High School basketball team. He led his team to win the Class 3A state championship and became the first team to win five straight championships in Minnesota.

Due to his stellar performance, he was honored with Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball title in 2019. Also, he was awarded Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

Additionally, he was selected to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and All-Pac-12 honorable mention. 

NBA Career

Tyrell Terry began his professional basketball career after Dallas Mavericks picked him with the 31st overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft.

He was waived by Mavericks on October 15, 2021.

After that, he signed a 10-day contract with Memphis Grizzlies on December 25, 2021, via hardship exemption.

Tyrell signed a two-way contract with the Grizzlies on Jan 1, 2022, but on July 2, he was waived by the team. 

On December 15, 2022, he announced his retirement from professional basketball at 22 due to anxiety issues.

Terry shared via Instagram that he had been struggling with anxiety stemming from basketball. He further writes he had “fallen out of love” with the game.

In 2018, Terry represented the United States in the Albert Schweitzer Competition in Mannheim, Germany.
