UConn Huskies Guard Azzi Fudd’s Journey To The 2025 National Championship Highlights Her Unbreakable Bond With Brothers Thomas, Jon, And Jose

Azzi Fudd, a standout guard for the UConn Huskies, made her mark by leading her team to win the 2025 NCAA National Championship in her senior year.

On April 6, 2025, she dropped 24 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, earning the Most Outstanding Player (MOP) honors for her standout performance.

But behind her dazzling basketball journey lies a story of family, particularly her close-knit bond with her brothers, Thomas, Jon, and Jose, who have been her biggest cheerleaders both on and off the court.

Azzi was born to Tim Fudd and Katie Smrcka-Duffy Fudd, who married in 2005. Basketball runs deep in their blood.

Her mom, Katie, was a star at NC State, while her dad, Tim, showcased his skills at American University.

Growing up in this athletic household, Azzi was destined for greatness, but didn’t do it alone.

She was raised alongside her older brother, Thomas, and two younger brothers, Jon and Jose, whom her parents adopted in 2011.

Together, this crew formed a tight unit, with Azzi often leaning on her brothers for support, especially regarding basketball.

Azzi once shared a heartfelt thought in an interview:

“I guess I helped him, but he helped me so much in my process as well . By being my rebounder and passer literally every day and they would cry, complain about it and obviously didn’t have a choice. They are my little brothers, my mom would tell them what to do, but still they were there every day helping me. “

Driven by love for each other and some encouragement from their parents, Azzi’s hard work every day helped him become a star.

Azzi’s Brothers Follow Their Paths While Remaining Connected To Their Sister’s Journey

The eldest of the siblings, Thomas Daniel Nynas, graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in 2018.

Standing at an impressive 6’3”, he played varsity basketball in high school. While there’s little public info about his sporting career after graduation, Thomas maintains an athlete’s lifestyle, training hard and eating clean.

He’s the quiet supporter in the family, always rooting for Azzi from the sidelines.

Likewise, Jon is currently studying at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut.

Beyond academics, he’s making a name for himself as a Community Relations Ambassador for the Connecticut Sun, the WNBA team based in nearby Uncasville.

His role reflects the family’s commitment to giving back, and it’s no surprise he’s proud of his sister’s success with the Huskies, just a short drive away in Storrs.

The youngest brother, Jose Fudd, is a freshman at the University of Mary Washington, where he suits up for the UMW Eagles men’s basketball team at the Division III level.

Like Azzi, he plays point guard and brings the same flair and determination to the court.

Jose and Azzi share a special connection; they grew up as training partners, pushing each other to improve.

He’s not shy about showing his support either. He often posts photos of Azzi on his Instagram story, beaming with pride as her “supportive and loving brother.

Azzi’s basketball story started long before her UConn days.

She was a force to be reckoned with in high school, averaging 26.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as a sophomore.

That jaw-dropping stat line earned her the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award, the first sophomore to claim it.

Her talent carried her straight to UConn, where she was named Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year.

She made her collegiate debut on November 21, 2021, against Arkansas, scoring 7 points and snagging 3 rebounds in a 95-80 victory.

It was just the beginning. Fast forward to March 25, 2025. Despite being eligible for the WNBA Draft, Azzi announced her return to UConn for her final season.

That decision paid off in the best way possible. On April 6, 2025, she hoisted the national championship trophy. The family cheering her on made this moment even sweeter.

Fudd Brothers Weren’t Just Spectators; They Played A Real Role In Azzi’s Success

Jose, in particular, was her constant companion on the court growing up.

He was there through it all by rebounding her shots, passing her the ball, and enduring her relentless work ethic (even if it meant a few complaints).

That sibling dynamic gave Azzi an edge; she had a built-in teammate who knew her game inside and out.

Thomas and Jon, meanwhile, brought their flavor of support. Thomas, with his own high school basketball experience, understood the grind.

Working with the Connecticut Sun, Jon likely shared a unique perspective on the professional side of the sport.

Together, they formed Azzi’s hype squad, celebrating her wins and lifting her through the challenges.

As she looks ahead, perhaps to the WNBA or beyond, one thing is clear: the Fudd siblings’ bond will remain unbreakable.

Whether it’s Jose posting on Instagram, Jon cheering at Connecticut Sun events, or Thomas staying fit and ready to hoop, Azzi’s brothers always have her back. And for Azzi, that’s more valuable than any trophy.
