Ethnicity And Family

Greg Schiano is an adherent of Evangelical Christianity, and his Italian-American heritage is a part of his background.

He was born in New Jersey, a state where Catholicism traditionally holds the largest religious presence, especially within the Italian-American community.

Despite the widespread affiliation of Italians with the Roman Catholic Church in both the United States and Italy, Greg Schiano stands as an exception to this trend.

It appears that he transitioned to Evangelical Christianity, possibly during his time at Bucknell College or while serving as an assistant coach at Penn State and in the NFL.

In 2006, Greg Schiano made a meaningful contribution by donating the proceeds from his Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award to two notable organizations: the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Athletes in Action.

It’s worth noting that Gary Waters, too, had affiliations with this Evangelical Christian organization. Greg Schiano is open and unreserved when it comes to discussing his faith.

Regarding his ethnicity, his family’s roots are Italian, but his father, Edward “Barry” Schiano, was raised in Carlstadt, New Jersey.

Some sources have indicated that his father embodied what could be considered a “typical Italian attitude.”

Greg mentioned in an interview that he inherited certain “street traits” from his mother and father.

Let’s Talk More About His Wife Christy

Greg is happily married to his college sweetheart, Christy, and the pair have a fairytale love story.

While at Bucknell, Christy, formerly known as Mitchell, crossed paths with Greg. Greg, a member of the football team, completed his studies in business administration in 1988.

Christy, on the other hand, graduated from the same school in 1990. Their love grew, which ultimately resulted in the pair tying the knot.

When talking about Greg’s daily schedule, she mentioned that the first thing he does after waking up is prepare breakfast for the family.

However, sometimes the family isn’t too keen on the breakfast options, according to his daughter Katie.

During their free time, they enjoy catching up on Netflix shows. Among their favorites are Friday Night Lights, Prison Break, and Breaking Bad.
