Kenyon Martin was born on 30 December 1977 to Lydia Moore, a single mother of two. 

In pursuit of a better life, the Michigan native and his mother and older sister Tamara moved south to the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. There, Lydia worked tirelessly, holding down two jobs to make ends meet.

Despite the challenges, Kenyon attended three different high schools in as many years.

Recognizing his exceptional basketball talent, numerous prominent universities contended for his attention.

After graduating from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas in 1996, Kenyon chose to further his education and athletic career at the University of Cincinnati.

Throughout his collegiate journey, Kenyon’s mother and sister, both dedicated to their careers, provided unwavering support for him to pursue his education.

This support system played a pivotal role in Kenyon’s success, and he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Kenyon Martin’s professional career commenced in 2000 when the New Jersey Nets selected him in the 2000 NBA Draft.

In his rookie season, Martin earned his spot on the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Notably, he was voted second for NBA Rookie of the Year.

Following a successful tenure with the Nets, Martin’s journey led him to the Denver Nuggets in a significant trade that involved three future first-round draft picks at the close of the 2003-04 season.

In 2011, he embarked on a new chapter, signing a one-year contract with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. However, he was released later in the year to attend to pressing family matters.

The athlete bounced back in 2012 with the Los Angeles Clippers. The following year, he joined the New York Knicks and then signed another contract with the Milwaukee Bucks the following year.

In July of 2015, Kenyon Martin bid farewell to his professional playing career.

Currently, he constantly supports his son, Kenyon Martin Jr, who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. The athlete is also a father to Kamron and Cierra, whose mother is Heather Martin.
