Will Saints Fire Dennis Allen? Head Coach On Hot Seat After Loss

This article was last updated by on

Dennis Allen Fired?: Dennis Allen’s tenure as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints has fallen short of expectations.

Despite boasting a seasoned roster and entering the season with lofty aspirations, the team has failed to capitalize on a relatively favorable NFL schedule.

This disappointing performance has sparked discontent among a significant portion of the fan base and has prompted the firing of Dennis Allen.

Dennis Allen currently holds the position of head coach for the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL).

Allen also served as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2012 to 2014.

His coaching experience extends to various teams, including the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, University of Tulsa, and his alma mater, Texas A&M University.

In 2022, the Saints promoted Allen to head coach, marking a transition from his seven-season tenure as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Navigating the Crossroads: Dennis Allen’s Uncertain Tenure

Dennis Allen is navigating an uncertain future as he struggles to maximize the team’s talent in his two-season tenure.

The Saints currently stand at 5-6. They find themselves tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the division lead in the NFC South.

The road to the playoffs appears clear for the Saints. If they successfully handle their upcoming challenges, there’s a chance Allen could secure his position for the 2024 season.

However, merely reaching the playoffs may not guarantee Allen’s job security.

The NFC South, widely regarded as the weakest division in football, could paint a deceptive picture of success for the Saints.

Even a playoff appearance may not shield Allen from the hot seat. This is especially true if the Saints advance only to face a humiliating defeat against a formidable contender.

The stakes are high, and Allen’s future with the team may ultimately hinge on the team’s performance in the crucial games ahead.

Will Dennis Allen Be Fired?

The Saints, known for their historical reluctance to change coaching midseason, haven’t dismissed a head coach midseason since 1980.

Each head coach since Hank Stram in 1978 has been granted at least three seasons.

Remarkably, the Saints have only let go of one head coach, Jim Haslett, in 2005, in the past 43 years.

So, it won’t be wrong to say that Dennis Allen will stay until the end of the season.

Nevertheless, the Saints’ 24-15 loss to the Falcons intensified discussions. These discussions revolve around Dennis Allen’s leadership and ability to guide New Orleans back to contention.

Delving into this matter, NOLA.com columnist Jeff Duncan provided insights in the most recent installment of the Saints Insider podcast.

Duncan expressed skepticism, saying,

It’s hard to have any confidence that something’s going to get fixed, and I think that’s why the fans are so upset, because they’ve seen the same problems recurring over and over again. Where’s the confidence that these problems are not going to rear their head?

However, general manager Mickey Loomis emphasized his support for Allen and his staff during his weekly interview with WWL on November 29.

The situation remains fluid for now, and the team’s decision-making process will unfold as the season progresses.
