Zach Wilson’s ethnicity is a blend of Native Hawaiian roots from his father and English ancestry from his mother, shaping his unique cultural identity.

Zachary Kapono Wilson is an American football quarterback currently playing for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL.

He was originally drafted second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft but struggled to establish himself as a franchise quarterback.

After a turbulent tenure with the Jets, he was traded to the Denver Broncos, where he spent the 2024 season as a backup.

Then, he signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Miami Dolphins on March 10, 2025.

Zach Wilson Was Honored With The Polynesian College Football Player Of The Year Award!

Zach Wilson was born on August 3, 1999, in  Draper, Utah, to parents Lisa and Michael “Mike” Wilson.

His father, Mike, of Native Hawaiian ancestry, spent his early years in Oahu, Hawaii, with his mother and sisters before moving to Utah for college.

On the other hand, Lisa, of White American descent, was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and comes from a Mormon family.

Her family has deep roots in Brazil and Utah, and her brother David Neeleman is a well-known entrepreneur who founded JetBlue Airlines.

Taking everything into account, Zach Wilson’s ancestry is a blend of English and Native Hawaiian heritage, passed down through his father, Mike Wilson.

His maternal grandfather, Gary John Neeleman, was born in Utah, while his maternal grandmother, Rose Maurine Lewis, had deep family ties to Arizona.

His Polynesian background is reflected in his middle name, Kapono, which means “righteous” in Hawaiian.

Embracing his roots, Wilson was honored with the Polynesian Player of the Year Award in 2020, a recognition that celebrated his cultural identity.

His parents are deeply intertwined with diverse professional backgrounds, such as sports, business, and social media.

Lisa is a personal trainer, chef, social media influencer, and entrepreneur. She is working as a Group Fitness Instructor at Treehouse Athletic Club while also running her clothing and jewelry brand, LiveLifeLegit.

On the flip side, Mike is an entrepreneur who owns gas stations, convenience stores, and laundromats in Utah.

Additionally, he played a major role in shaping Zach’s football journey. Initially, he had no intention of becoming a coach, but he ended up mentoring hundreds of young athletes, including his own sons.

When Zach was five years old, his mother signed him up for flag football, and the team needed a coach.

Mike was hesitant at first, but after no one else stepped up, he took on the role and never stopped coaching.

Over the years, he became deeply involved in youth football development in Utah, guiding not only Zach but also his younger brothers, Josh, Micah, and Isaac, who all pursued football careers.

Their diverse professional paths have shaped Zach’s upbringing, blending athleticism, business insight, and strong family values.
