Further, Alan became the team’s sixth man as a sophomore. But he was suspended for two games on January 23, 2020.

It was after he stepped on Sasha Stefanovic’s chest, who was an opposing guard of Purdue.

Despite this, Alan recorded a season-high six three-pointers and 24 points in a 74-6 win against Northwestern. Additionally, he went on to average 4.5 rebounds and 8.9 points per game.

Furthermore, after the end of the season, he transferred to Syracuse. After his move to Syracuse, Alan received a waiver for immediate eligibility.

During his first five games at Syracuse, Alan scored 18.5 points per game. He led Syracuse, further tallying 23, 20, and 22 points against Rider, Rutgers, and Boson College.

However, on December 16, Alan finished a game scoreless against Northeastern.

Nonetheless, he made a massive comeback against Buffalo on December 19. Alan recorded ten rebounds, with 24 points, two steals, three assists, and three blocks.

Moreover, his involvement in the match sent the game into overtime. It eventually led Syracuse to an 11 point victory.

Alan Griffin Granted Eligibility

The status of incoming transfer Alan Griffin was one of Syracuse’s most significant concerns in the 2020-21 season.

Alan, who can play small forward or a guard in Syracuse’s system, committed to the team after his transfer from Illinois.

After his transfer, young Griffin filled out paperwork with the NCAA to grant him immediate eligibility rather than sit game less for one season.

After he requested the NCAA, Syracuse Athletics approved. The team further stated his eligibility for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

Thus, Alan has two years of eligibility remaining with Syracuse Orange.

Further, in a press release from Syracuse Athletics, Alan stated,

“I’m very relieved to have that taken care of; It’s something I’ve been looking forward to since I came to Syracuse.”

Originally from Ossining, in the 2018 class, Alan was among the top five New York players. Further, he was rated as a three-star prospect.

As a freshman, Alan started 30 games, recording an average of 2.8 games per game.

Furthermore, he emerged as a prodigy off the bench during his sophomore campaign. Alan recorded 4.5 rebounds and 8.9 points, 18 minutes per game.

Also, Alan Griffin shot 41.6% from the three-point range, which was his best with Illinois last season.

What does Alan Griffin’s Eligibility mean for Syracuse?

After his recent eligibility, Alan is looking forward to strengthening the team’s starting roster. He transferred to Syracuse after scoring nine points per game last season with Illinois.

Alan was not a regular starter during his time in Illinois. Nonetheless, Syracuse hopes his productivity progresses in the upcoming season.

Further, before Alan was deemed eligible, the team was concerned about who would fit in the small forward spot. It led to Quincy Guerrier’s recognition as an option despite his lack of range and offensive skills.

However, Syracuse believed Quincy would provide support for rebounds.

Now with Griffin’s eligibility, the team’s eligibility is set too. Besides, Syracuse’s depth chart also looks much better in shape.

Illinois guard Alan Griffin drove around Michigan State forward Aaron Henry during a game in January 2020.

Further, Syracuse now has the option to bring Woody Newton if needed. Besides, they have Kadary Richmond in option as well, but his development has not been pertinent.

Additionally, similar to last season, the team can now space out Girard, Boeheim, and Griffin. The lineup is believed to be perfect along the three-point line with Bourama Sidibe and Marek Dolezaj in the down-low.

If Alan’s shooting percentage remains similar to last year, he could lead Syracuse in a three-point percentage.

However, the team will likely rely on the team as a third option to Girard and Boeheim.

On the other hand, Alan could achieve a similar percentage last season if he was used as a spot-up shooter.

Further, Fizz Nation thinks Alan would be successful during his first season with the Syracuse Orange.
