Arike was born on March 2, 1997, under the star sign Pisces in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is an American by nationality and belongs to the Nigerian-American ethnicity. 

According to sources, Arike Ogunbowale is of Yoruba descent, and her name “Arike” in the Yoruba language means a child you treasure, cherish, pamper, and love.

She is the youngest of the three children of her parents, Yolanda Ogunbowale and Gregory Ogunbowale.

Fun fact, Arike started playing basketball at the early age of three. The first time she professionally started playing on the court was with the Our Redeemer Lutheran School’s girl team in her eighth grade. 

Arike and the team won the national championship at the 2011 Tournament of Champions. She also helped her high school team win the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I title.

During the end of her tenure, Arike Ogunbowale became the 2015 Wisconsin Miss Basketball. 

In 2016, Arike joined the collegiate team, where she first played as a reserve athlete. In the following year, she became a regular starter for the team and also bagged the title of female athlete of the year. 

Arike made her WNBA debut in 2019. The Dallas Wings selected her as the fifth overall pick in the first round of the WNBA 2019 Draft. She was selected as the WNBA 2021 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Workout Routine

Arike Ogunbowale is all about repetition and loves to be in the gym every day and work on different shots. She lifts weights three times a week, and for her legs, she does squats. 

Her workout routine involves single-leg squats, split squats, Romanian deadlifts, and both double-leg and single-leg. For her upper body, she exercises with biceps curls, push-ups, and different barbell lifts.

Before going to bed, Arike does the Normatec compression system for 30 minutes and uses Yoga Toes on her feet to spread her toes.

When she is trying to recover from any injuries, Arike gets a massage every week. To improve knee stability, she always tapes her knees while doing workouts and stretches.
