Mathurin was born on June 19, 2002, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada & has Haitian ancestry. His parents: Felix Mathurin & Elvie Juene, had migrated from Haiti.

The NBA player was never close with his father, who died in 2013.

As a single parent, his mother, a nurse, raised him along with his siblings: sister Jennifer Mathurin, a former college basketball player, and now-late brother Dominique Juene.

In 2018, Bennedict became the first-ever Canadian invite to the NBA’s Latin America Academy in Mexico City.

Following two seasons at the academy, Mathurin went to the University of Arizona to play for the Wildcats over an offer from Baylor.
