Early Life & Education

Chet Holmgren was born Chet Thomas Holmgren on May 1, 2002, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, to former college basketball player David Holmgren and Sarah Harris.

His father played basketball for the University of Minnesota. Chet began playing basketball under the guidance of his father. Besides his parents, Chet has one older sister and one younger sister.

His oldest sister is 23 and pursued medical studies at her father’s Alma Mater, University of Minnesota.

She was a swimmer but, unfortunately, had some medical issues that kind of derailed her career.

Chet attended a Christian private school in Minneapolis, Minnehaha Academy, in sixth grade.

According to ESPN, he was the number one player in the 2021 class after the reclassification of Jonathan Kuminga.

In 2021, Chet announced that he would sign a National Letter of Intent to play collegiate basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Gonzaga University.
