Bret Hart | Childhood And Education 

Born on July 2, 1957, in Calgary, Canada, Bret Hart is the son of Stu Hart (father) and Helen Hart (mother). However, he is not the only son of his parents; he is the eighth son of his parents. Besides, Bret has seven brothers and three sisters and spent all his childhood playing with his siblings. Wrestling had always been in Bret’s genes; from an early age, he would attend many wrestling events with his father. Regarding his education, he went to Earnest Manning High School, where he completed his primary education. Hart revealed that he started training at nine, just for his father’s sake. By the time Hart reached High school, he was already a trained wrestler with a state and provincial championship.

Later, Hart was enrolled at Mount Royal College for a filmmaking course. Even though Hart was a great amateur wrestler, as a child, Hart never thought of being a wrestler. Even though he wanted to do something in the entertainment industry, destiny had something else for Bret. In the 1997 commonwealth games, Brat’s father wanted him to be a part of the games. Nonetheless, Bret knew if he didn’t win, he would end up being a coach, and he didn’t want it to happen. So, Bret decided to become a wrestler so he wouldn’t have to go to the Commonwealth. Bret Hart started as a referee at the beginning of his career; he even sold tickets to his father’s wrestling events before he became a professional wrestler.

But finally, in 1978, Bret made his professional debut; one of the wrestlers couldn’t perform that day, and Hart was sent inside the ring to fill someone else’s position.

However, even though it wasn’t something Bret desired, he did his best. Nonetheless, from that point, the relationship between Bret and his father became stronger. Bret was doing well, traveling and promoting his father’s business. Soon, he started liking wrestling and received a chance to be part of WWF in 1984. The rest is history.


WWF signed Bret Hart for WWF, but he wanted to work on his terms. At first, WWF suggested Bret adapt the gimmick of a cowboy, to which Bret refused.  Later, he started his career in a tag team with Dynamite Kid. However, after a month, Bret was introduced as Hit Man on the live telecast. He took help from Neidhart and other family members to strengthen his portfolio as a wrestler. He won his first-ever WWF Tag Team Championship in 1987. After that match, Hart changed his name to “The Pink and Black Attack” and started wearing his signature sunglasses.

In 1991, Hart won his first-ever singles championship in WWF, i.e. International Championship. That same year, Brat also won the King of the Ring title. The year 1992 witnessed the outstanding performances of Hart; he showed some exceptional moves which made him win the Match of the Year.  Later, that match was considered one of the best wrestling matches in the history of WWE. That same year, Brat won his very first WWF championship and defeated the title against Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, and Razor Ramon. 

Mid Career

At that time, Old Generation Era was about to end, and Stone Cold was on the rise; then, he challenged Bret to a match and constantly humiliated Bret in front of the audience. However, Brat and Cold faced each other in Royal Rumble, but Stone did some cheating and won the match. Hart didn’t like the decision, and as a protest, Hart quit WWF the day after that match.

Later, Hart made his return and turned rebellious; he hit McMahon and ranted wrong about WWF. Thus, this incident marked the beginning of the Attitude Era in WWF.

End Of The Hart’s Wrestling Legacy

In 1997, the rivalry between Vince McMahon and Hart peaked. Even though Hart was considered one of the biggest superstars, he was going through a financial crisis then. So, to improve his financial position, Hart joined WCW. But subsequently, Hart left WWF after losing in the Survivor Series. But this was not the end of his career. After WWF, he appeared in many shows like Independent Circuit, WCW, All-Elite Wrestling, and Impact Wrestling. Bret took professional retirement in 2000. Nonetheless, Bret has wrestled in around 2904 fights, won about 1857 games, and lost 744 matches.

Bret’s personal life has not been as smooth as his career; it has been full of ups and downs. Bret was first married to Julie Hart in 1982. Regarding their love story, they were teenagers when they fell in love. They went with the flow converting friendship into a relationship. After getting married, they had four adorable children: Jade Michelle Hart, Dallas Jeffery Hart, Alexandra Sabina Hart, and Blade Colton Hart. However, this marriage could not last long because Bret was always busy wrestling and couldn’t give much time to the family.

As a result of the distance, they divorced in 2002, but they separated in 1998; for four years, they were in an on-again-off-again relationship. Julie mentioned these in her book,” Hart Strings: My Life with Bret and the Hart Family.” After separating from Julie, Hart met Cinzia Rota, an Italian native, and married her in 2004. However, in 2007 they parted ways after they couldn’t decide where to live. But in 2010, Bret finally found his soulmate in Stephanie Washington and married her. At first, Bret’s sister was against this marriage as Washington was several decades younger than their father.
