While Cal and Billy stuck with baseball, Fred found his own passion and pursued it in the motorcycle world.

Cal Ripken Jr. is a well-known former American baseball player who is nicknamed “Iron Man” for his incredible durability in the sports world.

He was born on August 24, 1960, in Havre De Grace, Maryland. On September 6, 1995, Ripken achieved an iconic feat by playing his 2,131st consecutive game for the Baltimore Orioles in the American League.

This surpassed the longstanding major league record set by Lou Gehrig for consecutive games played, which had remained unbroken for over 56 years.

Ripken’s remarkable achievement earned him widespread recognition as one of the most enduring athletes in the history of professional sports.

He also won the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice, in 1983 and 1991. His MVP win in 1983 coincided with his leadership in guiding the Orioles to a triumphant World Series victory.

Cal Ripken Brother

Former MLB star Cal Ripken was born to Calvin Ripken Sr. and Violet Ripken on August 24, 1960. His father, Calvin Ripken Sr. (1935- 1999), had a rich career as a baseball player, scout, coach, and manager.

Cal grew up with two brothers named Fred and Billy and a sister named Ellen. While Fred and Billy are one and four years younger, Ellen is a year older than him. 

Throughout their childhood, the Ripken brothers shared a strong bond and a common passion for baseball.

As they grew older, each brother pursued their own passions and made significant accomplishments.

Brother Billy Followed His Brother’s Footsteps

Billy, the younger brother of Cal, followed his brother and father’s footsteps and played baseball for twelve years.

He had an active career in Major League Baseball (MLB)from 1987 to 1998, during which he played for several teams, including the Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, Cleveland Indians, and Detroit Tigers.

Billy Ripken was known for his right-handed batting and throwing style.

Following his playing career, Billy Ripken transitioned into a role as a radio host for XM Satellite Radio and became a studio analyst for MLB Network.

This shift allowed him to continue his involvement in the baseball community and share his insights with fans.

Fred Ripken Choose His Own Career 

Fred came from a family with a love for baseball, but he excelled in many other sports, such as bowling, darts, horseshoes, and swimming.

He even coached softball at Havre de Grace Little League and the High School.

Despite his success in sports, his true passion was motorcycles. He became a mechanic and eventually owned and managed Rip’s Performance Center, where he built, repaired, and raced motorcycles.

Fred’s expertise included crafting multiple Championship Racing Bikes, and he also showcased his talents in metal and woodworking.

Sadly, Frederick Charles Ripken passed away on July 30, 2022, at the age of 60.
