Chair to the Head, Punches to the Face and Middletown High’s Response? Suspension and No Football

Bullying has no place in schools

Sarah Couch shared a disturbing account of her child being violently attacked at Middletown High School on her Facebook post.

In her post, Couch criticized the school’s “no tolerance for bullying/violence” policy as a complete failure.

She described how her older child was assaulted during their last class of the day.

Her child was first hit in the back of the head with a chair, then repeatedly punched in the face.

Despite staff being present, no one stepped in to stop the attack.

Her child was left bleeding and had to be taken to the emergency room by ambulance.

Mother Says Middletown High Prioritizes Dress Code Over Student Safety After Violent Classroom Attack

According to Couch, the school’s response was not to protect her child but to punish them.

She explained that her child had permission from the teacher to rest their head when the attack began.

After being hit and cornered, her child defended themselves.

Yet, despite video evidence of the incident, the principal suspended her child for three days and banned them from attending homecoming and football games.

Couch expressed her frustration, saying the school seems more focused on enforcing dress codes, such as banning pajama pants, than ensuring student safety.

She demanded justice and accountability, claiming that punishing a victim for defending themselves is unacceptable.

Furthermore, she questioned:

After this experience how do you expect my child to still enjoy and look forward to attending school? Explaining to my child they did nothing wrong but in the same sentence have to explain they are being punished by the school is absurd! MCSD is a joke!!

Her post quickly gained attention, with many community members expressing support and outrage.

One commenter wrote,

This is crazy. So are the teachers that was watching your child. Be attacked get suspended as well without pay because why wasn’t they doing their job and protecting your child and I’m sorry if the adult authority in the room is not doing their job and helping my child while they’re being attacked, then your child should have the right to protecting their self shame on the principle for punishing your child l would me one pissed off mama and they be seeing me…

The community’s reaction shows growing concern over how Middletown High School handles violence and bullying.

Additionally, many are calling for changes to protect students and hold staff accountable.
