Prior to that, he had a successful amateur career, winning the super heavyweight class at the 2012 ABA Championships and the 2012 GB Amateur Boxing Championships.

In that period, he won the Commonwealth Heavyweight title, the WBA Gold Heavyweight title & WBO interim heavyweight title.

Also, he broke a 106-year record to win Commonwealth heavyweight title in just four professional bouts after Lenroy Thomas in May 2018.

However, on April 15, 2023, in his 16th bout, he lost to Zhilei Zhang by TKO. It was his first-ever defeat in his professional career & thus, lost his WBO interim heavyweight title.

With that, Joe Joyce stands with a boxing record of 15-1.
