John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. was born to Carol Cena (born Lupien) and John Felix Anthony Cena Sr. on April 23, 1977, in West Newbury, Massachusetts.

His mother is of English and French-Canadian descent, and his father is of Italian descent. Baseball player, and a coach, Ulysses John “Tony” Lupien, is his maternal grandfather.

When Cena was in school, his parents went through a divorce, and he lived with his father for most of his childhood. As an adult, though, John got close to her mother and even got her a house in Massachusetts.

After the contract, he impressively held the OVW Heavyweight title for three months. Moreover, he also received tryouts for the roasted WWF throughout the year.

Likewise, Cena joined the main roster in June 2002 and made his television debut on June 27 against Kurt Angle on an episode of “SmackDown!”.

 Ohio Valley Wrestling (2001–2002)

After signing for OVW, John was frequently seen competing on house shows for the WWF. Here, he wrestled legends like Shelton Benjamin, Tommy Dreamer, and many others.

Few could only dream of defeating Cena until one day when it happened. On September 25, 2002, he lost to Kane in a ‘Loser Leaves OVW match.

Later, he appeared on a one-off appearance in November. The name he chose was Mr. P, where he was matched in a six-man tag team match.
