Growing up, Justin Verlander did not have the opportunity to receive love from a sister, as he only had one younger brother, Ben Verlander.
Born and raised in the US, Justin Verlander started playing baseball at a young age. His father, who recognized his talent for baseball, enrolled him in The Richmond Baseball Academy.
As he progressed through high school at Goochland High School, Verlander’s fastball velocity reached a plateau at 86 mph.
The Detroit Tigers selected Verlander as the second overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft.
He officially signed a contract with the team on October 25, 2004. Verlander made his highly anticipated debut in Major League Baseball the following year.
In 2006, he received AL Rookie of the Year, and the following year, in 2007, he achieved the remarkable feat at Comerica Park against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Verlander has had an illustrious career in the Major League Baseball. He was a nine-time MLB All-Star and has earned several accolades throughout his journey.
Verlander has led the American League (AL) in strikeouts five times, earned run average twice, and won three times.
Justin Verlander Sister
Justin Verlander does not have a sister. In fact, he has a younger brother, Ben Verlander, with whom Justin shares a close relationship.
The Verlander brothers shared a passion for the sport and had the opportunity to be a part of the same organization.
Justin’s younger brother also pursued a career in baseball. Ben, like Justin, showcased his talent on the field and played as an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers.
Before joining the Tigers, Ben enjoyed a successful collegiate career at Old Dominion University. There, he was named an All-American.
Ben was selected by the Detroit Tigers as a 14th-round draft pick in 2013. However, in 2017, he was released by Lakeland, which was a setback for him.
He realized that he was at the peak of his baseball career at that time. This made him reflect and decide going keep going in the sport.
Instead of playing baseball on the ground, Ben decided to work on his host career, and now he is an MLB Analyst for FOX Sports and the host of the “Flippin’ Bats” podcast.
Supportive Parents Of Justin
The Verlander brothers were born to their father, Richard Verlander, and mother, Kathy Verlander.
Their father, Richard, despite not being an athlete himself, was the first person to recognize their talent and supported their dreams by enrolling them in various baseball organizations to help them improve and excel in the sport.
Richard and Kathy Verlander even wrote a book, “Rocks Across the Pond,” expressing their experiences and challenges, starting from the early days of the little league all the way to the pinnacle of the World Series.
