Lamonte Turner | Early Life, Family  & Nationality

The point guard, Lamonte Turner, was born on July 4, 1997, to his parents, Amanda Simpson and Lamondoe Turner, in Florence, Alabama.

He is American by nationality and belongs to the black ethnicity. As for siblings, Turner has three brothers, namely, Monterius, Tyson, and Collin.

Additionally,  Lamonte is the cousin of Ralston Turner, who is the former LSU and NC State guard.

Well, nothing much has been revealed regarding his early life, parents, and childhood. Just an interesting fact, his initial name is pronounced as luh-MAHN-tay.

Education

As for education, Lamonte attended “Sparkman High School” in Harvest, Alabama.

After completing his junior year, he switched his high school to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, in the fall of 2014.

His head skills trainer remained Dan Barto, and John Mahoney coached him. Not to mention, Rivals.com ranked him the no.56 overall prospect in the Class of 2016. 

Lamonte also joined Arlington Country Day School in Jacksonville, Florida, for the 2013-14 academic year.

He also performed on the 2015 Nike EYBL circuit with the E1T1 Elite program, held under Tony AtkiAtkins’storship.

Turner served as a point guard there with his vast size and explosive ability to score from any corner of the court.

As a high prospect, Turner was acknowledged with opportunities from Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Wichita State, Alabama, and Auburn.

But he went on signing with Tennessee on April 28, 2015. There Lamonte was redshirted for the freshman season.

After that, he performed in all 32 games and made 16 starts. He also remained a part of the highest-scoring freshman class in program history (1,140 points).

Moreover, he was named SEC Sixth Man of the Year. During his junior year, he had to face a little bit of difficulty at the beginning of the season as he dealt with shoulder pain.

This was the same year where Turner graduated with a degree in Communication Studies in May 2019. C

Coming to his senior year, Lamonte was enlisted to the Bob Cousy Award watchlist.

To sum up, Lamonte scored 12.3 points and 7.1 assists per game in 11 games but had a hard time shooting and hitting.

Turner had to conclude his Tennessee career on December 21, after a win against Jacksonville State due to the shoulder injury that he battled for more than a year.

Lamonte said,- “I played my last game tonight as a Vol — iTennessee’sform,”

Lamonte notched 8 points, and 11 assists in Tennessee’s 78-53 win against Jacksonville State, a matter of final littered act with clutch shots and tenacious defense.

It was a challenging moment for him, knowing that he was hustling there for the last time. That injury not only just hurt him physically but somewhere tortured him a bit mentally.

After informing the media, Lamonte and his family “informed Rick Barnes, Vols coach. 

Rick also mentioned that “He blended everything that he had for four and a half years, he received his grads, and he played a major e” tangling role in establishing the culture of our program.”

After all, he was the team’s best player and leading assist man. 

Moreover, the whole Tenneessee squad was unhappy to bid him goodbye, but on the other hand, they were gluing enough to support him further.

Lamonte had to go through an arthroscopic procedure in mid-April to cure his shoulder issues. 

He could not believe the injury was a major one; he thought of a minor muscular or nerve issue.

Before that, he missed out nine games in the 2018-19 season because of his shoulder issues.

It was before December that he was back for a three-game stretch in the nonconference schedule.

Lamonte is back with Vols after the surgery.

Well, there was news surrounding Lamonte being back with the Vols after his surgery to start rehabbing in Knoxville with his teammates. 

Sadly, Lamonte could not be in the game against LSU at Missouri as he went through the procedure, which included detaching a part of the first rib to free the nerve compression.

As a result, he did lose 10 pounds. The discovery of thoracic outlet treatment two weeks before his retirement cost him more than his career. 

Thoracic outlet syndrome is a nerve issue that results in pain and numbness in the shoulder and neck.

Besides that, counting master’s news, Lamonte took initiation to work towards his master’s degree in agricultural leadership, education, and communication.
