He played only six games in the club and later joined CSKA Red Army Jr. of the Rus-MHL league in the same 2010-11 season.

In the following season with the CSKA Red Army Jr., he played 15 games, scored nine goals, and made 26 points.
Due to his brilliant performance, he won MHL Kharmalov Cup in 2011.
He joined Manchester Monarchs of the AHL league in the following season, where he played only eight games. In the 2012-13 season, he played for the VHL and KHL leagues.
NHL Career
Prokhorkin started his NHL career after Los Angeles Kings drafted him as the 121st overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
On 5 September 2012, he signed a three-year entry-level contract, but it didn’t work out as after attending the Kings training camp, the Kings assigned him to Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.
Later, he returned to his home CSKA Moscow after playing eight games with the Monarchs. On 13 May 2019, Nikolai returned to NHL and signed a one-year entry-level contract with his draft club, the Los Angeles Kings as a free agent.
Firstly, the Kings assigned him to play with the King’s AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign club of the AHL.
And just after four appearances with the Ontario, the Kings recalled him back to NHL. Finally, he made his much-awaited NHL debut seven years after being drafted.
In addition, he made four goals and scored 14 points in 43 games in the 2019-20 season.
After the 2019-20 season halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Kings out of the playoffs, he opted to return to his homeland.
Back to KHL
After his skit with NHL, Prokhorkin returned to KHL and joined Metallurg Magnitogorsk on a two-year contract on 20 July 2020 after Metallurg acquired his KHL rights from his old KHL club Saint Petersburg.
Entering the 2021-22 season, Magnitogorsk traded him to defending champions Avangard in exchange for Denis Zernov on 30 August 2021.
After moving to different clubs in the other leagues, he finally found a home for now in the Avangard Omsk.
National Career
He represented Russia in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games to bring upon his national career, where he won gold with Team Russia.
