About Carissa Moore

Carissa Kainani Moore, born on August 27, 1992, is a professional surfer from the United States. She was the Olympic champion in 2020 and the World Surf League WSL Women’s World Tour Champion in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2019, and 2021.

Glamour magazine named her Women of the Year in 2013. In 2014, Carissa was inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame.

Carissa has used her fame to support several charitable causes over the years. In 2010, she gave her full pay to the local boardriders club after winning her first CT tournament in New Zealand.

She’s openly discussed the risks of binge eating, misogyny, and body shaming. She’s also a committed environmentalist.

Early Life & Childhood

Carissa began surfing with her father off the beaches of Waikiki in Honolulu, Hawaii when she was only five years. “Father taught me how to surf at Waikiki Beach when I was about four or five years old, and I was instantly hooked.”

Chris, her dad, was a successful open-water swimmer who won numerous contests. Moore picked Hawaii, the ocean, and her father after her parents split when she was ten years old since he lived closer to the water than the landlocked area where her mother resides.

Carissa would send letters to her father to keep herself motivated when she was staying with her mother, and her motivation for surfing started to wane.

Moore began winning NSSA junior surf contests when she was 11 years old. She also placed first at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, where she was a member of the winning Hawaii team.

She won 11 NSSA amateur titles, and when she won the Reef Hawaiian Pro at the age of 16, she became the youngest Triple Crown of Surfing champion.

Professional Career

Moore won eleven national wins as an amateur and was an instant threat to Stephanie Gilmore’s dominance when she joined the Championship Tour in 2010.

During her inaugural season, she brought a paradigm-shifting supply of power surfing to the women’s circuit, winning two races.

While she placed third in the world that year, she returned even stronger in 2011, winning three tournaments to earn her first World Title and halt Gilmore’s impressive four-year winning streak.

Steph and Carissa battled for World Titles three times between 2010 and 2015, passing the trophy back and forth.

Following her global title in 2015, she had a (relative) career downturn in 2017, winning only one tournament and finishing the year as World No. 5, the lowest position of her remarkable career.

Moore came back in 2018 with a passion, climbing back to No. 3 in the rankings with two first-place finishes, one at the first Surf Ranch Pro and the other in Maui.

After missing a year due to the pandemic, she dominated the start of the 2021 CT and went to the Tokyo Olympic Games as the Gold Medal favorite. Her victory there solidifies her place as one of surfing’s all-time greats.

Carissa Moore: ‘Glamour’ Magazine’s Women of The Year

Because of her numerous successes and tremendous influence in the surfing world, Glamour was named the surfer a Woman of the Year in 2013.

Kelly Slater, a professional surfer, was cited as stating, “Right now, she’s the finest in the world. What’s really scarier is that she continues getting better.”

In an interview with the magazine, Moore stated that one of her main aims is to empower other women. “I hope I can motivate girls to be proud of who they are and what they stand for,” she stated.

She continued, “While talking about the sport, girls are capable of accomplishing everything that men do. We can do airs, tremendous power carves, and everything in between, but with grace.”

Is Carissa Moore Married?

Moore married her longtime lover, Luke Untermann, in a beautiful outdoor wedding in Hawaii in December 2017. The wedding ceremony was attended by 300 people, including pro surfers Bethany Hamilton, John John Florence, and Coco Ho.

“We’re just high school lovebirds who are so delighted to be starting this next chapter of our lives together,” she said to The Knot.

“I’m delighted with how everything turned out,” she concluded.

My wedding planner did an amazing job turning this into a massive, gorgeous luau on the north shore. “Luke and I are grateful,” she added.

The couple has not welcomed any child until now. However, Moore and Untermann currently share two dogs, Maya and Tuffy.  Their dogs have already made appearances a couple of times on More’s timeline, including on Mother’s Day in 2020.

The athlete shared a cute selfie of herself and her pet and joked, “I have a dog. Therefore I’m a dog mom. One day, I hope to see the genuine thing… but not anytime soon.”

Carrisa Moore: Net Worth

Carissa Moore’s net worth is estimated to be about $2 million. Her long and successful surfing career has played a significant role in this.

She also receives money from a handful of her endorsements, including Hurley, a well-known surf brand.

In addition, Carissa achieved $1 million in prizes in 2017, with roughly $194K in prize money collected in WSL tournaments.

The champion of each of the 11 Championship Tour events takes home $100,000, according to SurferToday. As a result, Carissa must have made a lot of money after winning the Championship Tour.

Moreover, she has amassed a considerable fortune through her surfing career. And, given her continued dedication to her profession, there’s no doubt that her net worth will rise in the future.

Sponsorships

Sponsorship deals or endorsements for numerous brands are another source of income for any athlete who has amassed tremendous money and fame.

Get the details about Andy Irons, the only surfer on the ASP calendar who has won every championship in every competition but unfortunately gone too soon!

Moore’s triumphs and success over a long time must have drawn the attention of many sponsors like Subaru Hi, Banan, Leus, Dakine, RedBull, Lost Surf, Gillette Venus, Xfinity, and others.

Moore also extended her multi-year association with The Hurley Brand (“Hurley”) in February 2020. It’s a skate, surf, and snow lifestyle company that creates industry-leading footwear, gear, and accessories.

Carissa has also served as an ambassador for Oura since July 2021. In the same way, she is an Aloha ambassador.

Carissa uses her Instagram account to promote a variety of products. These sponsorship and endorsement arrangements may have helped her dramatically improve her riches.

Lifestyles

Carissa Moore’s fortune, as previously said, might be in the millions. With such a considerable net worth, it’s no wonder that she lives a lavish lifestyle.

She and her husband, Luke Untermann, live in Oahu, Hawaii, where they have a prosperous and happy existence.

Carissa Moore’s husband is a businessman. He owns Banán, an Oahu-based food truck with four childhood buddies.

Moreover, as seen in her Instagram, Moore is a professional surfer who travels the world.

She spends half of the year living out of her suitcase chasing waves and the other six months relaxing at home in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she was born and bred.

“When I’m not surfing,” she stated on her website, “you may find me scrapbooking, visiting with my family, training, or napping.”

Moore qualified for the ASP (now known as the World Surf League) Championship Tour in 2010, winning two significant events and finishing third overall, earning her the title of Rookie of the Year.
