Richaun Holmes: Amateur Career

Richaun Holmes progressed from a 6’2″ guard to a 6’9″ forward in high school. However, he did not receive any Division I college basketball scholarship offers until he committed to Moraine Valley Community College.

Richaun averaged 19.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.2 blocks per game in his lone season at Moraine Valley.

Holmes transferred to Bowling Green after earning junior college All-American honors.

Sophomore Season

Richaun averaged 6.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game as a sophomore at Bowling Green.

As a junior, he doubled his scoring totals, averaging 7.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

With the addition of coach Chris Jans, Holmes worked on improving every aspect of his game and adding a three-point shot, taking 1,000 photos in practice at times.

As a senior, he averaged 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game while shooting 56.3 percent on field goals and 41.9 percent on three-pointers.

The Philadelphia 76ers selected Holmes with the 37th overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft on June 25, 2015.

He signed with the 76ers on July 31, 2015, after averaging five rebounds and 10 points in three summer league matches.

On November 9, 2015, he made his first career start, scoring 11 points in a loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Richaun re-joined the 76ers for the 2016 NBA Summer League in July 2016. In January 2017, the athlete was assigned three times to the NBA Development League’s Delaware 87ers.

Following the Nerlens Noel trade, Joel Embiid‘s prolonged injury, and Holmes outplaying Jahlil Okafor, the athlete became a fixture during the Sixers’ rotation in February 2017.

Holmes was traded to the Phoenix Suns for cash considerations on July 20, 2018. In a 104–82 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets on November 6, he had season highs of 13 points and ten rebounds.

On December 10, Holmes set a new season-high with 19 points in a 123–119 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

On March 15, 2019, Holmes recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds in only 16 minutes of action in a 108–102 loss to the Houston Rockets.
