Mercer was traded to the Nuggets in exchange for Popeye Jones after two seasons with Boston. He played 37 games during the season of 1999-2000.
Soon after, the former player left the Nuggets. Then he signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bulls the next year and scored 19.7 points per game in the first year.
