Early Career
The 43 -year-old Hockey winger joined the Torpedo-2 Yaroslavi team of RUS.2 league in 1997 and played for a season at the age of 17.
The very energetic Sergei then played for Val-d’Or Foreurs of the QMJHL league the following season. Later he returned to the RUS league.
RUS Career
After playing with Val-d’Or Foreurs for a season, Sergei joined CSKA Moscow and returned to the RUS league.
In the RSL league, the winger played for four seasons from 2002 to 2006 with the CSKA team. Moreover, Sergei helped the club rise into the championship potential team and earned him the captaincy of the CSKA.
In the 2005-06 regular season of the Russian League, the Russian excelled as the league’s top scorer with 52 points beating Aleksey Morozov and Evgeni Malkin.
Later, he played with Khimik Moscow Oblast for two seasons in the RSL league before joining the KHL.
In the RSL league, he played 298 games, making 128 goals in 141 attempts. In addition, he collected 269 points under his belt in those 298 games.
KHL career
In 2002, Columbus Blue Jackets drafted Sergei Mozyakin in the ninth round of the NHL Entry Draft as the 263rd overall pick. However, he never opted to leave KHL, becoming one of the greatest players ever to skate that never played in the NHL.
Interestingly, Columbus Blue Jackets still owned Mozyakin’s NHL draft right. As KHL and NHL do not have transfer agreements, they carried those rights indefinitely.
Sergei started KHL with Atlanta Moscow Oblast, where he played for three seasons since 2008. And with great luck and effort, he popped up as a top scorer in those three seasons.
The 5 feet 11 inches, Sergei then joined Metallurg Magnitogorsk for four years and later extended his contract for another six years.
As a result, he played with the team for ten seasons. During those ten seasons, he won the Gagarin Cup for the first time as team captain and scoring leader in the 2013-13 KHL season.
With his brilliant performance, Sergei added the four-scoring titles with the Metallurg. In 842 games of both regular season and playoff games, the Russian scored 419 goals and 928 points in the KHL.
