A native of Plainview, New York, Seth Vincent Greenberg is a former college basketball coach-turned-ESPN analyst.

There, he joins personalities specializing in basketball coverage, like Malika AndrewsMike GreenbergRichard Jefferson, and Doris Burke.

A former collegiate basketball player at Fairleigh Dickinson, he pursued a career as a coach shortly after graduating in 1978.

Having worked as an assistant in Columbia, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Miami through 1987, Seth became an associate head coach at Long Beach State under Joe Harrington.

Then, in 1990, he became the head coach of Long Beach State until 1996. There, he coached NBA players like Lucious Harris and Bryon Russell.

From 1996 to 2003, Greenberg was the head coach at South Florida Bulls and later at Virginia Tech (2003- 12).

With a head coaching record of 383-293, he retired from coaching & became a college basketball analyst for ESPN in 2012.

Unlike some rumors that Greenberg has cancer, his late father, Ralph Greenberg, lost his life to lung cancer in 1996.

As a result, he has a “personal battle” with cancer & advocates for cancer research.

In December 2017, he made a Tweet for a fundraiser for The V Foundation, he wrote,

“Lost my dad to cancer. Miss him like so many others who have lost loved ones. We need to find a cure.”

Moreover, the cancer has hampered him emotionally in other ways, too.

While he was at Virginia Tech, the Hokies player Allen Calloway died in 2009 after battling cancer, and another player, Coleman Collins, lost his father to lung cancer in 2006.

In September 2010, speaking of the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative, Seth told The Roanoke Times“It’s a cause that’s very dear to my heart. It’s very personal to us.”

Seth Greenberg’s Family: Wife And Daughters

Greenberg is one of three sons of his parents, Marilyn and Ralph Greenberg. His older brother Brad is also a basketball coach; he serves in the Puerto Rican club Cangrjeros de Santurce (2023- present).

Seth enjoys a blissful married life of 38 years with his wife, Karen Greenberg. They exchanged vows in May 1986 and made a Tweet on their 33rd wedding anniversary in May 2019.

Together, the duo shares three daughters: Ella, Paige, and Jackie.

The former basketball coach’s daughters are grown-ups and have a family of their own.

Brief On Daughters

Greenberg’s daughter, Ella Greenberg Rash, has married Andrew Rash since May 30, 2015. They are Virginia Tech alums and met at the college. They share two kids, both daughters, Amelia and Gigi.

Ella is a licensed realtor in Virginia and the owner/president of Allyn Contracting Services. Her husband, Andrew, is a project manager & estimator at STAFFORD SYSTEMS, INC. (2018- now).

Seth’s other daughter, Paige Greenberg Armold, is the mother of a daughter and son named Pat with her husband, James Armold. James is the senior VP of Ticket Sales and Service at DC United.

They married on May 15, 2021, at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Spring, West Virginia.

The youngest daughter, Jessica Greenberg Lyon, lives with her boyfriend-turned-husband, John Lyon. The duo walked down the aisle in September 2023.
