Kim built a loving family while constantly supporting Willie’s coaching journey.

The University of Tennessee football program is making another change to its coaching staff, parting ways with longtime defensive backs coach Willie Martinez.

It continues the defensive reshuffle that began with the hiring of Jim Knowles and the firing of defensive coordinator Tim Banks after a disappointing season.

Willie has 19 years of coaching experience in the SEC and spent a total of nine seasons with the Volunteers across two stints.

He first coached at Tennessee in 2013, later reuniting with head coach Josh Heupel at Central Florida before following him back to the Vols in 2021.

His departure will trigger a separation payment with one year remaining on his latest contract extension. According to his original contract terms, the university will owe him approximately $540,000, equivalent to one year’s salary, as he was fired without cause.

Tennessee is expected to hire Ohio State’s Michael Hunter as the cornerbacks coach, per
@mzenitz. Willie Martinez is not expected to return in 2026.
