Amateur Career 

Trevor attended Westchester High School in Los Angeles, where as a junior in 2001–02, he led the Comets to the California State championship with teammates and future NBA players Hassan Adams, Brandon Heath, and Bobby Brown.

Ariza, a five-star recruit according to Rivals.com, was ranked as the No. 5 power forward and the No. 18 player in the country in 2003.

Ariza played in 25 games (23 starts) as a freshman at UCLA in 2003–04, averaging 6.5 rebounds, 11.6 points, and a team-high 1.7 steals.

He was later named to the Pac 10 All-Freshman team at the end of the 2003-2004 season. Following his freshman year at UCLA, he declared for the NBA Draft.

Orlando Magic (2006–2007)

Ariza and Penny Hardaway were traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Steve Francis in February 2006.

He appeared in 21 games after the trade and averaged 4.7 points per game for the rest of the season.

Trevor appeared in 57 games and started seven of them during the 2006–07 season. He averaged 8.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

Los Angeles Lakers (2007–2009)

Trevor was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in November 2007 in exchange for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans.

In January 2008, he broke his bone in a right foot, but he returned to play in Game second of the Western Conference Finals against the San Antonio Spurs in May, scoring a basket during his first minute of action.

The Lakers defeated the Spurs in five games to advance to the 2008 NBA Finals, where they were defeated by the Boston Celtics in six games.

He started 20 of the 82 games he played during the 2008–09 season. Ariza was ejected from a game against Portland on March 9, 2009, after committing a flagrant foul on Rudy Fernández.

Ariza set a career-high with 26 points, three steals, three rebounds, and two assists against the Dallas Mavericks on March 15, 2009. He began to show more defensive ability after becoming a starter.

Ariza agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Lakers on a one-year contract worth $2,641,691 on August 6, 2021.

Championship Season

Ariza set a playoff career-high with 21 points in Game 1 of the first round against the Utah Jazz.  

Trevor stole an inbound pass from Chauncey Billups in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets to help the Lakers defeat the Nuggets.

In Game 3, the Lakers led by 2 points with 37.1 seconds remaining when Ariza intercepted Kenyon Martin’s pass to Carmelo Anthony near midcourt, allowing the Lakers to take a 2–1 lead.  

The Lakers won the series 4–2, advancing to the NBA Finals against the Orlando Magic.

Ariza scored 13 points in the third quarter to help the Lakers win in overtime in Game 4 of the NBA Finals after going 0-for-6 in the first half. In addition, he also had nine rebounds and three 3-pointers.

The Lakers won their 15th NBA championship in five games, 4–1. Ariza averaged a career-high 4.2 rebounds and 11.3 points in the playoffs while shooting 50 percent from three-point range.

Houston Rockets (2009–2010)

Ariza signed a five-year, $33 million contract with the Houston Rockets on July 3, 2009. Ariza was signed using the Rockets’ Disabled Player Exception for injured center Yao Ming.
 
Trevor set a career-high with 33 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 31, 2009, in a 111–107 Rockets victory.
 
Moreover, Ariza was ejected on December 13, 2009, after attempting to punch DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors after stealing the ball. He was then suspended for one game.
 
In the Rockets ‘ last game of the season, the athlete recorded his first career triple-double on April 14, 2010, tallying 26 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists.
 

In exchange for Rashard Lewis and a draft pick from the New Orleans Hornets,  Emeka Okafor and Ariza were traded to the Washington Wizards on June 20, 2012.

In a 113–112 defeat to the Houston Rockets on February 12, 2014, Ariza hit a career-high ten three-pointers to score a season-high 32 points, as well as 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Return to Houston (2014–2018)

In a three-team sign-and-trade deal, Ariza was re-acquired by the Houston Rockets on July 15, 2014.

It also included the New Orleans Pelicans, with  Omri Casspi and Omer Asik going to the Pelicans, Melvin Ely going to the Wizards, and Ariza going to the Rockets, along with Alonzo Gee and Scotty Hopson.

On February 6, 2015, the athlete tied a season-high with 24 points in a 117–111 victory, snapping a 172-game winning streak.

On January 24, 2016, he set a season-high with 29 points and six three-pointers in a 115–104 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The next night, he surpassed that total, scoring 31 points in a 112–111 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

On February 27, Ariza hit two three-pointers against the San Antonio Spurs, extending his streak to 29 games, the longest by a Rockets player since Aaron Brooks hit 39 in a row in the 2009–10 season.

Ariza scored 19 points and had six assists in a 127-105 victory over the Golden State Warriors throughout Game 2 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals on May 17, 2018.

Ariza missed all nine of his 3-point attempts in Game 7 of the series, a deciding loss, and the Rockets set an NBA playoff record with 27 consecutive missed 3-point attempts. 

Phoenix Suns (2018)

On July 6, 2018, Trevor Ariza agreed to terms with the Phoenix Suns on a one-year, $15 million contract.

On October 17, 2018, Ariza made his Suns debut, scoring 21 points, seven assists, and eight rebounds in a 121–100 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Return to Washington (2018–2019)

Ariza was traded to the Washington Wizards on December 17, 2018, in exchange for Austin Rivers and Kelly Oubre Jr.

On January 13, 2019, the athlete narrowly missed his second career triple-double, recording 23 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists in a 140–138 double-overtime loss to the Toronto Raptors.

Sacramento Kings (2019–2020)

Ariza signed a two-year, $25 million contract with the Sacramento Kings on July 7, 2019.

Ariza had a season-high 18 points and six rebounds in a 111-99 win over the Golden State Warriors on January 6, 2020.

Portland Trail Blazers (2020)

On January 20, 2020, Trevor Ariza, Wenyen Gabriel, and Caleb Swanigan were traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Kent Bazemore, Anthony Tolliver, and two future second-round draft picks.

On June 22, 2020, Ariza announced that he would not be returning to the NBA season’s start in Orlando. Instead, he agreed to a one-month visitation period with his young son, according to ESPN.

Ariza, Isaiah Stewart’s draft rights, and a conditional future first-round pick were traded to the Houston Rockets on November 22, 2020, in exchange for Robert Covington.

As part of a sign-and-trade deal, Ariza and Stewart were traded to the Detroit Pistons on November 24 in exchange for Christian Wood.

On November 27, Trevor, Justin Jackson, a 2023 second-round pick (from either Miami or Dallas), and a 2026 second-round pick were transferred to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team trade involving the Detroit Pistons.

During his time with the Thunder, Ariza never reported to the team and never played a game for them.

Miami Heat (2021)

On March 17, 2021, Trevor Ariza was transferred to the Miami Heat in exchange for Meyers Leonard and a future second-round draft pick.

He appeared in 30 games, starting 27, and averaged 9.4 points, 1.8 assists, and 4.8 rebounds.

Controversy: Accused of Child Abuse 

Trevor’s life has been a rollercoaster ride: he has lost a loved one, been traded more times than he would like in the NBA, and was accused of abusing his son Tajh Ariza in 2020.

Lana Allen, the child’s mother, claimed the NBA star had a habit of administering corporal punishment that resulted in injuries and sought a restraining order on the child’s behalf. The violence was depicted in graphic detail.

Allen claimed that the child was afraid of his father and sought a restraining order against Ariza to protect their son.

Allen obtained a temporary restraining order but was denied an extension after Ariza fought back and was found not guilty of the charges.

The judge concluded that Trevor was not a threat after hearing testimony from all parties involved, including both parents, therapists, the child, and others.

The judge granted Allen primary custody and granted Trevor significant visitation time in order to improve their relationship.
