Tyreke Evans: Early Life

Tyreke was born in the town of Chester in Pennsylvania, on the 19th of September, 1989. His parents are John Evans and Benita Evans.

Besides him, John and Benita have three other boys elder to Tyreke, namely Reggie, Julius, and Dion Evans.

His parents were usually supportive, loving parents; however, his three older brothers had a major influence on his upbringing. They were hell-bent on providing their brother with opportunities they never got.

Growing up in Chester, Pennsylvania, meant a young man would likely get into troubled streets. Sports was a way to shield him from such dangers and lead a hardworking and noble life. So, his brothers managed to get him into basketball at the age of six.

The brothers, who call themselves team Tyreke, even managed to arrange private high school education for him, despite they themselves never got that luxury.

When Tyreke was 12, one of his brothers reached out to William Wesley for ‘wisdom’ and to be like an uncle to Tyurelke. Wesley happily agreed.

Supportive Brothers

With the efforts of his brothers and his own love for sports, Tyreke slowly started to materialize a dream of playing professional basketball.

Along with that, he even got his personal trainer, chiropractic, and other things that would help him stay able and focused.

Tyreke remembers how his brothers used tricks to make him learn techniques and skills. Like that time when they used to duct-tape his right arm to his body and force him to dribble with his left.

Tyreke used to play in the rain and the snow and went to bed carrying his basketball.

Making his Mark in High School

He attended an American Christian high school where he played as a guard. Talented Evans quickly proved his mark, and by his second season, he was being compared with Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady.

Subsequently, at the age of 18, he was one of the top high school seniors in the USA. He was also picked as the top player in the 2008 class by Slam and Dime magazine, rated third by HoopScoop and ESPN. And the list of his victories goes on and on.

He was named to the 2008 McDonald’s all-American team as well.

As a rookie, Tyreke immediately showed his impressive skills and even got called the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for two successive months. He also became the fourth rookie ever in NBA to average at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

On April 27, 2010, he was awarded the 2009-10 NBA rookie of the year award for his accomplishments.

Up to the 2013 season, he was on and off of the games due to some injuries he sustained.

In a sign-and-trade deal, Evans was acquired by the New Orleans Pelicans in July 2013.

Ban from NBA and Currently

On May 17, 2019, Evans was dismissed from the NBA for violating the NBA’s terms of drug use. It is well known that NBA has a struct term of Anti-Drugs programs that prohibits any form of drug abuse.

According to the terms, he was dismissed and disqualified from NBA because of failing to comply with these terms.

Tyreke became eligible to apply for reinstatement in 2021, three years after the ban. On February 14, 2022, he was officially reinstated and was a free agent.

Wisconsin Herd signed him on March 16, 2021. But on another twist of events, Wisconsin waived him on March 23.
