Early Life

Walker Kessler, son of Chad Kessler and Andrea Kessler, was born on July 26, 2001, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

His father, Chad, and uncle, Alec, played college basketball in Georgia, and they were drafted into the NBA, but unfortunately, he failed to make the roster and never got to play in the NBA. 

Chad later played in the Australia Basketball League for a year before returning to his studies in medicine and becoming an orthopedic surgeon.

Coming from a sports background, Walker started playing basketball at a very young age.

He has a brother and sister named Houston Kessler and Lily Kessler, respectively. Houston, his brother, also played college-level basketball for Georgia.

Education

Kessler completed high school at Woodward Academy in College Park and began his career playing for them.

He led his team to its first Class 4A state title as a senior, averaging 17.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.2 blocks per game.

As a high schooler, Kessler won numerous awards, including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year, Mr. Georgia Basketball, and Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year.

Walker decided to play for the University of North Carolina despite receiving numerous offers from universities like Duke, Michigan, Virginia, and Vanderbilt.

Kessler was the 22nd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft but was traded twice before starting his career in the league.

He was chosen by the Grizzlies on June 24, 2022, then traded to the Timberwolves.

He was traded by the Timberwolves to Utah Jazz on July 6, 2022, for Rudy Gobert.

Walker Kessler then signed a four-year rookie contract with Utah Jazz on July 9, 2022.
