Alonzo Menifield | Early Life 

Menifield (fully named Alonzo Theodoro Menifield) was born on October 18, 1987, under Libra’s sign. When at the age of naughty days and sparkle lights, Menifield had the tragic path to rejection and violence. 

Sadly, he never gets to know his biological father as he died in the early phase of his adolescence.

Apparently, his mother was an immigrant from Belize who indulged in drugs after his father’s death. However, he wasn’t the only child; he had his older brother, Cecil Menifield. 

Altogether, at the age of 14, California Child Protective Services took them away from their mother to keep them in the foster care system.

Indeed, as often described him, it was his lowest point in life, seeing their mother run behind the vans as they were getting carried away. 

As a result, his loss of familial support and love resulted in him being full of anger within. After the separation with loneliness creeping, he and his brother ended up in 12 different foster care, one at a time.

Moreover, they didn’t even spend a long time in one place, always having a short limited period. 

Rejections and the Consequences 

During those periods in foster care, he only faced rejection from the parents to adopt, and that budded more anger to him.

Subsequently, those incidents filled him with desperate anger, which always came out in fights.

For instance, his involvement in fights with the children or the management eventually ended with him being in the juvenile hall pressed with the charges. 

Amidst all the violence and rejection, he chose God’s faith to guide him when he was begging Him to help. 

New Parent

After switching to foster care, Menidfield, alongside his brother, was taken in by The Way In, a Hollywood-based shelter.

In fact, this very moment came as the turning point when he met his parent, Godwin Ezenwa. 

Actually, Ezenwa was the counselor working in that very foundation, which Menifield always terms as the prison. Initially, his older brother, Cecil, pleaded with Ezenwa to adopt him and his brother.  

To elaborate, Ezenwa was an African immigrant who agreed to adopt them when the whole world had left them behind.

Education

Although the boys had grown up, they weren’t able to read or write. Thus, attending school for the first time hit differently in many ways.

At first, Menifield attended Canyon High School. That was for the first time; he gained a new sensation of freedom in his life.  

Parallel to his studies, Alonzo found his love in football games; thus, he appeared as the linebacker on his team.

Within two years of introduction and phase with his high school, Menifield moved to the NJCAA Glendale Community College (California). 

He was also involved in track and field. Overall, with Glendale’s two seasons, Menifield bagged the Honorable Mention All-American and earned a Texas A&M University-Commerce scholarship.

Following it, he entered Division II college, where he majored in Criminal Justice. Within a few years of devotion, he graduated from there with a degree in hand.

Even after graduation, Menifield didn’t give up his football passion and therefore was professionally featured in the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League.

After years of into football, Menifield concluded football wasn’t his real love and shifted to MMA.

After graduation, Menifield also took the weekly jiu-jitsu classes at a local academy. Therewith, Menifield took two years of preparation before finally debuting in the industry. 

On November 20, 2015, the kid who used to make the DragonBall Z doodles and kung fu duels made his debut in the professional octagon at heavyweight against Zach Rosol.

The match took at Bellator 146, which marked his successful debut with the TKO in the first round. 

Likewise, he made two other successful games with TKO and KO, then moved to feature in Dana White’s contender series.

Dana White’s Contender Series

Alonzo Menifield partook at Dana White’s Contender Series – Season 1 Week 3, where he first faced UFC veteran Daniel Jolly. On July 25, 2017, which was a victory through TKO in the first round.

Alonzo Menifield vs. Dashaw Boatwright

Even after bagging the first fight, Alonzo wasn’t given a contract with the UFC; thus, grabbing the second chance, he featured at Dana White’s Contender Series – Season Week 1.

They held the match on June 16, 2018, at The Ultimate Fighter Gym tonight, Nevada, Las Vegas, over Dashaw Boatwright.

Altogether, the match started with a clash in the center, which resulted in Menifield’s win through Knockout in the first round. Therewith, his eight seconds win was awarded the UFC contract.

Similar to his first MMA game, Alonzo made a successful UFC debut on January 19, 2019, via TKO with punches in round one.

On June 29, 2019, the undefeated Alonzo Menifield was set to face Paul Craig at UFC on ESPN 3 in Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Apparently, the match took as the main card for UFC ESPN Ngannou vs. dos Santos, which was claimed by Menifield through KO with punches in round one.

Alonzo Menifield vs. Devin Clark 

With eight knockout wins and one submission win, Menifield went on for his next fight against Devin Clark on June 6, 2020.

Furthermore, the match was held at UFC 250; it stretched out much more than it would rather do for Menifield. 

As the match started in Vegas, it was Clark who made the first approach through a takedown.

At the end of the first round, Clark’s face was a mess with all swollen eyes. However, in the second round, Menifield lacked, and thus, it was Clark who was dominating the round. 

Overall, the match ended in the third round after Clark landed a big combination. Therewith, Clark won the match by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-28).

Alonzo Menifield vs. Ovince Saint Preux

After his foremost loss in his career, Menifield was expected to face Ovince Saint Preux on August 22, 2020.

With everything set, as they advanced to UFC on ESPN 15, Preux had to pull out just a couple of hours before the fight. 

The bargain mentioned that the fighter had tested positive for COVID-19; thus, the match was rescheduled for September 5, 2020.

To elaborate, the match was on the main card of UFC Fight Night 176 on ESPN, which Preux claimed through knockout in the second round.

Alonzo Menifield | Upcoming Fight

Menifield is the fighter who commenced his octagon gameplay after sealing the deal through the 2019 Contender Series season. From then on, he has been featured on the 205-pound division roster spot. 

After two continuous losses streak, Menifield is scheduled to fight William Knight on February 27, 2021.

As a fighter, Alonzo Menifield is also a father and a husband. Thriving from the lowest point of his life, Menifield has come along a long journey, and thankfully, he has a lovely family as his backbone. 

Wife and Kids

At present, Menifield leads a happy life with his family of five in Plano. To illustrate, he met his wife, Crystal, during his college days at Texas A&M Commerce. Back then, they knew each other, and that was it. 

Following it, the feelings all sprouted when Alonzo started liking all her pictures on Instagram, and they eventually talked with each other.

Gradually, as things moved on, he asked for her number, and they had a relationship blooming in between.

Afterward, they had a few dates to go on, and in the interval of three years, they were married.

Therefore, they now share three children; two sons, Alonzo Jr. Menifield and Xavier Menifield, and a daughter, Zola Ann Menifield. 

Hardships of Menifield

Back in his starting days, Menifield had quite a day with constant work and less sleep. Surprisingly, the fighter could go a long run with just a few hours of sleep.

To elaborate, apart from fighting, Menifield also worked at a nightclub checking IDs until 2 a.m.

First, his day started with striking training at Saekson’s Muay Thai in Plano, followed by gym workouts.

Second, he would give his short time to his family and then get back to his MMA training at Fortis MMA in Dallas. Altogether, he ended the day with work at a nightclub and finally, 3-4 hours of sleep at maximum.
