DeAndre Hopkins’ Mom Early Days
Hopkins’ mother, Sabrina Greenlee, was born to an alcoholic father, while her mother’s situation was even worse, a drug addict.
Sabrina was born on the 1st of April, 1970. She was born and raised in South Carolina. Since the age of 14, she has been a victim of abusive relationships.
“By the time I was 17, I had been put into the hospital three times,” said Sabrina.
“I remember trying to take my senior pics at 18, and it did not happen because I had two black eyes and broken collarbone that day,” she further added.
DeAndre Hopkins’ Mom Relationship and Kids
As of now, Sabrina is not in any relationship. In the past, she had been in four different relationships, all of which were abusive, and ended up in a divorce. Sadly, every man she grew feelings for did not know how to treat a woman.

Harris Steve Hopkins
Sabrina Greenlee met Harris Steve Hopkins in 1989. She was 19 at the time, while Harris was 22. The result of their relationship was DeAndre Hopkins.
He was born on the 6th of June, 1992, in Central South Carolina. But Andre was not Sabrina’s first child.
Before marrying Harris, Sabrina had already been in two relationships, resulting in two children; Kesha Smith and Marcus Greenlee.
For the first time in her life, Sabrina met a kind, loving and caring man, Steve Hopkins, but happiness was not written to last long in her face.
In 1992, when DeAndre was born, Sabrina and Steve Hopkins were strolling around in his Ford Mustang GTS when the car skimmed over the wet road resulting in Mr. Hopkins’ death.
The rainy weather had made the road all wet and slippery. When Steve tried to make a turn, the car hydroplaned and flipped three times before striking a guardrail on the driver’s side.
Luckily, Sabrina did not suffer any major injuries, but unfortunately, Steve Hopkins died eight days after the accident.
The couple’s firstborn, DeAndrea, was just five months old at the time.

The youngest of the squad, Shanteria Cobb, was born in 1998. She is now a basketball player attending and playing for Texas Southern University.
Likewise, Kesha Smith graduated from Southern Wesleyan University. At present, she works for the Houston Wildcats of the Independent Women’s Football League. She works as a slot receiver for them, and she is also a basketball trainer at the side.

DeAndre Hopkins’ Mom as a Single Mom
Being responsible for raising four children on her own, Sabrina had to work two jobs. During day time, she was a low-level employee earning minimum wage at an automotive plant.
When the night took over, she would be an exotic dancer at a bar. Unfortunately, Sabrina also fell victim to an acid attack which left her blinded.
She was poured a mixture of bleach and lye on her face by her ex-boyfriend’s other girlfriend.
The horrible crime happened on the 20th of July, 2002, after her then-boyfriend took away her car without any prior notice. So, naturally, she called him and told him to bring back the car.
She told him to bring the car to a certain location where she was visited by her boyfriend and his other girlfriend named Savannah Carlita Grant.
Savannah poured the mixture of lye and bleach on her face. Poor Sabrina’s face started melting right away. Her skin began to fall off of her face, chest, and neck. Her eyes were also blinded in an instant.
“And as I am lying there, the first thing I am thinking is, ‘Why would someone pour warm water over my face?’ ” she said.
She further added, “But a couple of seconds later, I realized it was not warm water because my skin is falling off my face, my neck, my chest, and my back.”
After Savannah attacked her, Sabrina’s then-boyfriend put her in the car and drove her to a gas station, where a gas station employee called 911.
Sabrina was rushed to the burn center in Georgia, where she was placed in a medically induced coma for two whole weeks.
Sabrina underwent skin graft surgery in which healthy skin from her chest and back were placed onto her face.
Post-operation
When Sabrina regained consciousness, she had a swollen face, was blinded, and couldn’t even speak properly.
She has over 20 surgeries on both of her eyes. Though not a hundred percent, she did recover her eyesight up to 60 percent. But unfortunately, she completely lost her sight later.
After her surgery, she surely recovered from her wound, but the scars remained, which reminded her of the day she became the victim of acid-attacked.
As a result of the incident, she became depressed and became dependent on drugs and alcohol to wash away her pain.
Savannah Grant, the woman who sprayed acid on her, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and was released back in 2020, May 6.
In 2019, Sabrina told ESPN, “I was able to cope with being blind and the scars and the ridicule. And I think it gave me the courage to eventually find myself.”

After her incident with the acid attack, she began thinking critically about the thousands of women who face the attack every year.
In an attempt to help the victims of domestic abuse and acid attacks, she established S.M.O.O.O.T.H in 2013.
S.M.O.O.O.T.H stands for Speaking Mentally, Outwardly Opening Opportunities Toward Healing, a non-profit organization specializing in assisting victims of domestic abuse.
