Early Career | High School and College

Dylan Larkin | Professional Career

Following his successful freshman year as the Michigan Wolverines, Larkin signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings on May 21, 2015.

Right away, he was assigned to the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, following an amateur tryout.

Young Dylan finally made his debut as the Griffins on May 24, 2015, against the Utica Comets. In his second match, Larkin scored his first professional goal against Jacob Markstrom.

In October, Larkin made another history by making it to the final roster for the 2015-16 season, being the first 19-year-old to debut on opening night since Mike Sillinger back in 1990-91. 

During his NHL debut, Dylan made his first NHL point, an assist in the first period followed by his first NHL goal in the second period against Jonathan Bernier of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Later in November, he was named the NHL Rookie of the Month, leading with seven goals in 13 games.

Likewise, Larkin scored a goal for the fourth consecutive game, becoming the first Red Wings teenager to do son since Steve Yzerman back in 1984-85.

He led the rookies with ten goals, ranked third with 18 points, and 64 shots on goals in 24 games. Not to mention, Larkin got the NHL Rookie of the Month award.

On March 24, 2016, Larkin recorded his 200th shot of the season, making him the fifth Red Wings rookie.

He was also named the 2016 NHL All-Star Game and was the first rookie to play in the All-Star Game since Yzerman back in 1984.

At the NHL All-Star SuperSkills Competition, Larkin set the NHL record for the fastest skater with a time of 13.172 seconds.
