Lance Armstrong and Kristin Richard’s married life ended after they announced their divorce in 2003.
CNN’s Jake Tapper investigated the sports world to reveal Lance Armstrong’s downfall in the United States of Scandal, which premiered on CNN on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
Despite mounting evidence of doping, he also investigated why the public trusted him for almost a decade.
Jake also spoke with Lance’s one-time whistleblower teammate Floyd Landis, reporter David Walsh, and team carer-turned-whistleblower Emma O’Reilly, who tried to bring evidence of his doping to light.
Lance was diagnosed with testicular cancer on October 2, 1996, at 25. In 1997, Lance established the Livestrong Foundation in Austin, Texas.
He was treated and returned to professional cycling soon after winning the Tour of France a record seven consecutive times.
Following the consecutive wins, he faced constant allegations of doping.

American former professional road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong met Kristin Richard at a press conference in June 1997 while Armstrong was battling cancer. Soon, they started dating each other.
The couple married in 1998 in Santa Barbara, California. Kristin left her public relations job, rented her house, sold her Miata, and moved to France with Lance so he could focus on cycling.
They welcomed their first child, a son named Luke, 26 in 1999. In 2001, Lance and Kristin welcomed their twin daughters Grace, 24, and Isabelle, 24.
Sadly, Kristin and Lance’s married life ended following their divorce in 2003. However, the reason behind their split has not been revealed yet.

After the divorce, Lance met Anna Hansen in July 2008, and they started dating.
Anna and Lance welcomed their first child, a son named Max Armstrong, 16, in 2009.
In 2011, they welcomed their second child, a daughter named Olivia Marie Armstrong, 14.
Anna and Lance got engaged in 2017 and tied the knot in August 2022 in France.
Lance shared a glimpse of their marriage on his official Instagram handle and captioned it,
Best. Day. Ever. Married the love of my life @annahansenarmstrong. So special having our kids there as well. It was an evening full of laughter and plenty of joyful tears. Anna, you have been my absolute rock the past 14 years and let me be clear, I would not have survived them without you. Their wedding ceremony was officiated by actor Chad Mountain, whom Armstrong also thanked in his Instagram caption. He wrote,
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t think our best bud aka ‘Reverend’ @chad_mountain for officiating the ceremony.”

After thanking photographer Liz Kreutz for capturing the memories of their big day, Armstrong told his followers,
“Hope you are all having an excellent summer — I sure as hell am.”
