Jonathan Toews – Professional Life, Chicago Blackhawks

Toews was selected in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in the third pick by the Chicago Blackhawks. He signed a three-year entry-level contract in 2007, and for that, he left the remaining two years in college.

Chicago Blackhawks

Jonathan Toews scored his first goal in his first game against the San Jose Sharks. He also brilliantly scored the second-longest point-scoring streak to start an NHL career as he recorded each of his first ten games with 5 goals and five assists.

Jonathan got his first injury in the NHL in 2008 when he sprained his knee while playing against the Los Angeles Kings. He missed 16 games due to the injury.

Despite playing really few games due to the injury, Toews was the top scorer among the rookies and finished second in line only behind fellow rookie Patrick Kane.

Both of the players were selected for the Calder Memorial Trophy as NHL rookie of the year, and eventually, Toews finished second to Kane.

Looking at his successful rookie year, he was named the Captain of the Blackhawks in 2008.

He was 20 years when that happened, so this made him the third-youngest team captain in NHL history, only behind Sidney Crosby and Vincent Lecavalier. This record was later surpassed.

Career this decade

Since the beginning of the 2009-10 season, Toews received concussion-like symptoms since he was on the receiving end of the open ice hit from defenceman Willie Mitchell of Vancouver Canucks.

He agreed to extend the contract with the Chicago Blackhawks for five seasons with $6.5 million annually. That season, Toews finished with 68 points in 76 games.

Toews went on to record his career-high hattrick and two assists and led the Blackhawks to win the first-ever Stanley cup in the Franchise’s history since 1961 by winning against the Philadelphia Flyers in Finals.

He became the second-youngest captain in NHL history to win the Stanly Cup. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs.

When he won the Stanley Cup, he also became the youngest captain in history to be a part of the Triple Gold Trophy, which consists of Olympic gold, the Stanley Cup, World Championship.

Toews narrowly missed playing in the 2012 All-Star Game due to an injury incurred during a game with the Nashville Predators and hence was replaced.

He returned to play at the playoffs and played brilliantly, scoring the overtime and send Chicago back for Game 6, but they eventually were eliminated from the playoffs.

Not Affirmative with the decisions taken by Blackhawks

Jonathan was not happy with Corey Crawford being allowed to leave and Brandon Saad‘s trade to Colorado Avalanche.

Jonathan Toews expresses disappointment toward his squad Blackhawks making insignificant changes to the team by appointing youngsters to their roster and replacing key experts.

“I’ve never been informed that we were going through a rebuild. A lot of this comes as a shock. it is a much different direction than we expected.”  the Chicago captain told The Athletic.

Corey Crawford inked a two-year deal with the New Jersey Devils as a free agent as he was offered $7.8 million contracts ($3.9 million average annual value).

And regarding Saad, there is news that as a part of the financial affairs the Blackhawks retained $1 million of his $6 million salaries for the remaining years of his deal.

However, both were immensely talented players. Saad was a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Blackhawks (2013, 2015), was third on Chicago with 21 goals last season. Crawford also took the Cup in 2013 and 2015.

Retiring from Hockey

Well, there is a huge shocking breaking news coming up. Jonathan Toews has declared a full lifestyle change which influenced him to take retirement from hockey.

He commits to full-time involvement with the Kitchen Community program and looks to have it installed in all schools and daycares across Chicago.

The news was revealed by ESPN’s April Foolington. Thus, Jonathan has not come up with a statement.

Jonathan Toews – Personal Life, Net Worth

Let’s start with the younger days, what goes on in his personal life, and dive into his personal romantic life (relationship).

Younger Days

Jonathan Toews is a young, hard-working guy who keeps his private life mostly out of public eyes. We do not have much insight into his personal life, but we know a few things we would like to share.

Standing tall at 6ft 2 inches, this handsome ice hockey player has gotten into trouble with the law once or twice.

Along with his University of Dakota teammate, T.J Oshie, he received an alcohol-related citation for which they plead guilty.

Both of them were out on probation and were required to complete certain hours of community service.

Another interesting incident involving Toews happened in the spring of 2010 when a large mural depicting Toews with a weird-shaped nose and mouth posing with the Stanley Cup.

The insulting and hideous mural was visible from Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago. It all turned out to be well, considering that he actually won the Stanley Cup later that year.

Latest News about Jonathan

On the same day, as he was honored with the lake name, the place where he played hockey, the Dakota Community Center was renamed the Jonathan Toews Community Center in his honor.

Jonathan Toews was also given the Keys to the City as an honor to his achievements in sports and his commendable work ethic.

Engaged to his girlfriend or not?

There isn’t much news about his private life, but Jonathan Toews has been seen on multiple occasions with his girlfriend Lindsey Vecchione, who is a model.

There were hearsays of the couple getting engaged to one another but then seems like it was all a fallacy. Clearing the air, they are not yet engaged but madly in love with each other.

They initiated seeing each other in 2012 and have been together for around 9 years. Almost a decade!

Brother, David Toews

Just like his elder brother, Jonathan, Devon is also an ice hockey player. He was hired by the New York Islanders in the 3rd round with the 66th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry draft.

Just popping into his professional career, David was ranked 79th among North American skaters by the NHL Central Scouting Bureau. He has played for AHL, Rockford Icehogs, ECHL, Toledo Walleye, Bakersfield Condors, Idaho Steelheads, Utah Grizzlies.

And in 2013, he cracked a contract with the Reading Royals. Talking about his International plays, David allied with Hockey Canada as a member of the national under-18 team.

David was named to the roster for the 2007 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament on August 8, 2007.  There is also an interesting story about him while he was busy with making his mateur career.

At Shattuck-Saint Mary, David with his teammate Kelsey Tessier left the team and school after being dismissed for cheating. Actually, he had to appear for a Chemistry and just before that he got a notebook that had accurate answers.

While giving the exam, David was all worried about running out of time while led him to write word-for-word answers. Moving further his professor noticed the similarities between Davids’ answers and those of the old test.

And henceforth, David got suspended and moved to  Superior, Colorado to play for the Colorado Outlaws midget “AAA” team of the Midwest Elite Hockey League.
